My decision on the .325-3/8ths thing depends more on the bar length than anything.
I like the 3/8ths on the 20" bar on my 5100s but with the 16" bars I just like the smoothness of the .325.
I know my AK77 346XP was astounding this weekend with a 16" .325 in a downed cherry!!!
I think I'll use the PP305 on the Oak I'm about to go after.

Well I lied!

I started after a load of that Oak and my tractor started sliding down the hill.(You flatlanders would probably call this a mountain LOL) I figured there was no way I was going to bring a load of Oak out of there so I went to a Honey Locust that has been down for a year or so instead.

MAN!!!

That sh..............tuff is HARD and DENSE!!!
I'm anxious to see how it burns.
The PP305 made me proud to be a Poulan guy.
Looking forward to getting the rest of it out of there if it burns like I think it will.

I really like honey locust, but it's been two years since I have found any to cut. I did get three loads of black locust last year.

Hot and slow ....

Here's a link: Sweep's Library - Firewood BTU Comparison Charts

We have mostly honey locust.... My favorite firewood. You actually have to mix it in with a piece or two of oak to keep it burning if you have an airtight stove.

LOVE IT.

Thats what I like about Southern Ohio where my land is. Reminds me of small scale mountains where I lived in MT. Like standing up at the top and looking down through the valleys.

My wife being from flat lands NE Ohio thought they were mountains the first time I took her for a hike.

Everything across this road is mine (standing in a friend from schools driveway to snap pics). Took 3 pics and pieced them together.

Aaron, I might suggest, if you can find one, a HDA137 carb. It only came on the PP380 that I'm aware of. I had an extra at one time that I gave to Mark. I can't recall if he tried it on a PP330 or not. But I think thats another option for ya.

Gregg,

Last I knew you could still buy the HDA137 through Poulan. I believe it's between $25-30.

530069895 - $26.94 at Poulan

That comes up as a 164 on ereplacementparts.
It also shows it as the 137 on poulan... Odd.

Didn't mean to say you were wrong! Just making sure.

Edit# 4

It comes up as a 164 on a bunch of websites.

This is a carb I bought last year and it is a HDA137 in the pkg. Now if you get one today will it be the same? I don't know.

On another note. I found a replacement for the lower handle buffer on the s25cva. It's almost the same as original and I get the cheapies for 63 cents.

If anyone wants one, I just ordered 6 (3 for the Benz and 2 for my saws) so ill have an extra you can have for 63 cents plus shipping. The one I had here threaded right in, but we will see in a week when I get them.

Mark what symptoms was your PP330 showing when the HDA164 went 'bad'? Got my PP330 together today, and it's not running right. I'm going through the 'usual' stuff...........but was wondering if the carb may be the culprit...

They just act wierd, like the the saws got a air leak, wont idle down etc. Just goofy like.

Thanks for posting that. I got mine repaired under warranty at no charge. The shop ordered the carb straight from the PP330 IPL and like yours it arrived as a 137 carb, not the 164 shown on the IPL.

Like someone else says the IPLs at Poulan Pro show 164 and 137 carbs for different saws but the carbs all carry the same part #.
I would be surprised if ordered today that a 137 wouldnt show up.

Gregg,

You did Gregg and I still have it, just like when you sent it home with me. My whole idea was to swap it onto my 60cc PP365 to see how it worked instead of the small original HDA49 that is on it. I had good intentions at least. :hmm3grin2orange:

I still want to try it.

I agree with why you like 325 for limbing and because that is what the saw came with. I fully understand that.

The reason I like 3/8 on the small 3 cube saws that have the balls to pull it. Besides being quicker in the cut is that I deal with firewood cutters bucking hardwoods, we aint worried about limbing etc. If I am limbing I am using a smaller saw then anyways with 3/8LP or 325 too. Mine decision is based on quicker cuts and bucking hardwoods for firewood for the 3/8.

I have firewood guys wanting me to switch their saws from 325 to 3/8 all the time if their saw can handle it I do. None has never ask to go back afterwords either. ;)

Kevin, your free to do whatever works for you. As for 3/8s being that much faster bucking? I aint buying it. Like I said, Mike and I tested and it was a very small difference.

Sometime ago on my own I tried both 72LPX with a 7 tooth against 20LPX 8 tooth both on my stock 60cc PP365. I used that one because I knew it wouldnt be lacking for power with either and I had bars and sprockets to make the test for that saw.

No stopwatch used, just me and a 20" log and I really couldn't say one was faster then the other. If it takes a stopwatch to tell the difference, your wasting your time worrying about it.

You really prefer 3/8's and thats fine but I aint buying what your selling on it being much faster.
