I guess I should have put some chainsaw #### (photos) in this request for help. :hmm3grin2orange: I may have to move this the the "Wild Thang" thread to get some much needed feed back. I know there is a bunch of you great folks that can help this poor neophite get his crappy saws back together.

Spring is coming so smile and treat each other with respect. This is such a great thread for learning.

Many thanks,

Lee:hmm3grin2orange:

Lee I didnt reply because I dont claim to know all there is on these little plastic models. Never switched that much stuff around on them, just always got em running.

That said I do think they will interchange without much hassle. You can do like I did and look at the IPLS to find out for yourself.

Lee, Them fellers can play nice, I seen them do it! at our Poulan GTG's.

As for your saws...I am not a bit of help, unfortunately. I gravitated to the older Poulans from the get go. The newer smaller saws from Poulan leave me in a daze, to be honest. So many models, and variations of models, don't know whats interchangeable and what isn't.:confused2:
I just don't own any to be of any real help.

Gregg,

I didnt offer any info either Lee. Becuase I dont know the 2550 3314 stuff you wanted info on.

I know the 220. I took a 36cc clam and put it in a 40cc-42cc clam body before if that helps any. Few minor changes but nothing that wasnt bolt in.

You certainly do nice work!
I had no doubt that you WOULDN'T get it done.
Just that it wasn't gonna be real easy.

How long did it take you to get it to that shape?

Mike

It was alittle bit of work. I wanted to show you this picture. When I c-clamped it in place I put this torx in there where the adjuster screw goes and welded a bridge right over it. The magnesium will not stick to it and you end up with the hole in the right place. I had to weld this from the top side and back side both because it was broken clean through. The shaping I used my flex shaft and some burrs and I have some small files and I made these small metal blocks that I wrap sand paper around and use them for shaping also.

Well I brought a MS 180 back to life and use last night and while it is a decent little saw for a homeowner or very occasional cutter, I'd like to smack the next Stihl lover that makes a disparaging remark about a Wlidthing right in the puss!!!!!

Have you got any idea what it takes to change the oiler in that little rascal????:dizzy:

So I found out something cool today. A guy I know from growing up and church was over at my shop while I was checking out his truck. While we bull crapped I got talking about the 2171 I just got together. He mentioned he used to be a chainsaw repair man. I asked where. He says... Oh I used to fix and sell Poulans. Naturally the conversation went well from there...lol. Turns out he was the mechanic for the shop I get all my old poulan stuff from. He told me one story that was particularly enjoyable.

While he worked there, a guy that was friends with the owner bought a 5200 for use at his saw mill. The mill guys almost never used it and always complained it wasn't a stihl. So the guy trades it back in on another saw while telling them its a piece of junk, blah blah blah. After it sits on the shelf for a while, the owner say to my buddy, lets make a race saw out of that thing. They proceed to advance the timing, cut the air filter in half for better flow, and a few other small things. Later that month, they enter a saw competition. There were 10 guys sawing. He is cutting with the 5200 and almost all other saws were stihls and a couple huskies. On his up cut he knew he was going to miss cut so he started the up cut over and still got fourth, beating the guy that traded the saw in while using his new Stihl.......lol.

Pulled a 3300 54cc parts saw of the shelf that has been up there for year and half. Thought something was strange when I seen fins on top. :msp_thumbup::msp_tongue: Can you say happy dance 60cc chrome bore top on the 3300. Somebody did me a favor.

Now my question is when was 3300 discontinued aka last made?

I dont have a idea, I know exactly what it takes and why.

Thats just one of the reasons I consider them a overpriced flimsy POS.

Funny story but one I have a hard time relating to.

In and around 1975 there were no Stihls around this area that I can remember, and if there were most of the folks around here would not have had much interest at all in a furrin saw!

Stihl didnt have a whole lot in the way of compititon for a 5200 back then anyway that I can think of.

I had a hell of a time finding the saw......I had it in a snowmobile trailer...I have been going nuts trying to find the 24 inch bar for my 8500...they were both there. :) This is what I found. Thick rings...they seem t work well......there does not seem to be much carbon there. Very low hour saw.

Yep that is a thick ring 3800. That is sure good PSI for that saw. It just goes to show what they are capable of when in good shape. Thanks for pulling the muffler and taking the Pic.

I actually didn't ask the year, but from the time he worked there I'd say this was more like the very early eighties.

He said they only sold 2 5200s out of that shop when they were offered and I believe the lets build a race saw thing happened when the 5400s came out.

Thats ok, I had it wrong anyway, I do that sometimes, the 5200 came out in 78! Still were not any Stihls round here then anyway,
