gotta give a big shoutout to chainsawr:yourock
ordered up a bunch of poulan parts on the 7th, and recieved them today! from the states to canada:matrix:
notice it didn't take a month?:ices_rofl:
i'll be doing more buisness with them fo sho!

1) You aren't going to get kicked off Poulan Island for stating an honest, fact based opinion.
2) Slip over to the boneyard and grab a flywheel that is made correctly from one on the hundreds of throw away's that you have been given and you're all set.
3) I've never encountered a problem setting the ignition, or seen that the case was problematic. On the contrary I find it to be a MUCH better case than any of the "other brands" $109.00 saws have.
4) That chain can be about as good as any (similar) with a good file and a few minutes.
5) I believe that almost ALL of the small carbs now are made in the same place.
6) Any carb can give one fits if it has been abused, neglected or the needles switched around!:(
7) The engineering is VERY sound and what kind of execution do you think $109.00 should buy?
8) If you paid $180.00 for a 4218, you need to call the cops..............you've been robbed!

And finally, I wasn't comparing the 4218 or any of its brethren to a REAL saw. I was comparing it to the 180 Stihl which is a saw in its class. Don't make the mistake that so many here do and evaluate the Poulan homeowner saws based on the knowledge you have of well made pro or semi pro saws. The homeowner class saws can never stack up to a pro saw, just as the best Toyota pickup ever made can't pull what a Mack can.
They were designed and built cheap..............to sell to cheap people.

I will say that it is amazing what those little saws are capable of if given proper care, maintenence, a good diet and allowed to work at their own pace.

1. Whew, glad I can stay, 'cause I like it here
2. I did not pay179$, but posted the clearance price at Sears, and it was what my knucklehead buddy paid
3. Not comparing it to a new real saw, but for all the likes about them, I think he would have been better served to buy a decent used or refurb saw for the $.
4. I will defer to those that know them better, but with all the good old warhorses out there, I'm just not feeling it for these little P's....I do covet the 8500's posted on here:msp_sneaky: (I will talk to my pastor about my jealousy)
5. Good point on the carb and homeowner chain
6. I have to use lists, 'cause with my advancing age I can't keep thoughts straight for more than two sentences.

1st round is on me for all I have learned here, take care,
Chris

Well i removed my muffler off the 5020 craftsman and shined my mag light into the P&C and discovered the saw has a plated bore and a regular piston with a single thin ring ( it looked thin but yet again i need new glasses).
I looked into a poulan pro 375 today but the pawn shop i found it at wants 450$ and i think that's 350$ to much and backed off :dizzy: but it did look good and still had the original B&C.

Wow $ 450 for a 375. He must be in love with that saw.

They are good for blocking the wheels on the wood trailer when parking on hills:msp_sleep:
if you have run out of Mini Macks...
The stihls are good while fishing too tie a rope to the handle and pitch it in the water makes a dandy anchor

How was your cutting trip to Vermont? I heard there are no trees left there

Real good. Tried out my new to me HUsky 266xp. Didn't get a chance to use any of my Poulans up there. Next trip, though. Bought a 24" bar but think a 20" would be better. Going back up in May as we will have another 5-6 cords to cut. Farm is being logged to improve woodlot and logger will skid out a semi truck load of firewood timber for us to buck, etc. Wood varys from Ash,beech, maple, black Cherry, etc. The good wood is going to the mill.

It sounds like you'll be looking forward to be having lots of fun up Vermont.

Hey Bob,

I'm assuming you drive to Vermont? That's quite the hike from Texas! My good friend used to live near you there and makes the drive from pa to Tx every so often and says its actually a great drive. Where are you located when in Vermont? My wife and I went up and skied at stratton mt. A few years ago. I love it up there.

Bob, Them all sound like pretty good wood too! ;) I have cut tons of Ash for firewood, a little Beech, Maple, and Cherry also. But I understand what ya mean, we logged here back in winter of 2003/04. Sold 74 trees, all of them Oak. :) White Oak & Swamp White Oak, and one large Pin Oak.

This was on my feePay Watch List. I sometimes wonder if the bids are real, or shill bids.

Craftsman 3 7 Poulan 3700 Chainsaw Excellent Condition | eBay

Blackoak is one of our members I think. I guess we could ask him if it's real...I'm pretty sure the last bid was because someone has to pay after the bidding is over. Ebay always extracts their fees, also. There are a lot of non paying bidders on ebay but I haven't seen very many on chainsaws.
