Finally got to do some cutting and splitting today

The best part was I remembered (geezer) to save a bunch of rounds to tune / test saws in. Crap wood but good for what I need it for.
I used the 285 to cut anything 16" and under and the 4200 to noodle some larger stuff.
I have a whole new respect for that 285. That is a great little saw. Tons of power for a 46cc saw. Really easy on fuel.

306A test cuts.

Haven't been around lately for several reasons, some family bussines kept me away plus that i was out of internet for over a month.A couple of days ago i recieved my vaccum pump and i was finally able to test my 306A.It had a tiny leak from one screw of the carb(not sure about how it was happening something like that),a little Dirko around the screws and everything seems to work perfect now. Can't believe how an old saw like this can be so fast and powerfull,so light for its displassement and age.If it has the antivibe of the later models,it would be perfect.I made a few cuts to test it:

Looking and sounding good Kostas :msp_thumbsup: I agree, that if that old style had counter vibe features, they would have been about perfect. Especially the 245A;) I watched the video of your 4200 also. That is a saw I use a lot, and love dearly, they make some power!!! You NEED a 5200 or one of the other 85cc Poulans, with a 30" bar, and put it some big wood...that will put a smile on your face also.:D

Gregg,

Just love the sound of the 306 with the original style muffler. Lookin good!

You must have some of that new stealth paint on them Poulans!! I can't see um to save my life.:D

Gregg,

Well, Here's a pic of the culprits that made the chips. I had hoped to try the 3700 out as well but decided to run a full tank of gas through the 285 and it wasn't thirsty enough.

Glad to see you had plenty of help. :msp_confused: You should'a made more, or is it too late?

I have a few more rounds out front I have to deal with and may keep them as well. The rounds as they are getting pretty heavy for the geezer trying to get them from the front of the house to the backyard.

All in all though, a very enjoyable day for me.

Thanks all of you guys but especially you Tim for your help.Well i am really dissapointed about the 390 i bought for my friend.I know that this is a large homeowner saw and not a pro saw but i expected more than a saw which cost almost 900$ new in Greece. The oil pump is junk. The saw is in really nice shape,p/c are like new,i replaced the crank seals, lines, filters and running really well but it has 8 pin rim so it is a little slow(supposed it should be faster but it has not the power to run 8 tooth with 20'' bar).I told to my friend that a 7 tooth is what this saw must run.You must be joking if you want to put a ms390 against a 4200.The 4200 has only 5cc's more but it's power is impressive(my friend's words when i give him to run my 4200).

Poulan 3400 Problem

I have a 3400 that I've been trying to bring back to life but I've ran into a snag.. it has a leaky gas tank and I need to take it off to repair it. Problem is, I can't seem to get it removed. I've cleaned it all up hoping to find some screws hidden by dirt but no luck. I even took the flywheel off hoping there was a screw behind it, no luck. Ye Poulan experts care to weigh in here?

I had the same question and there is nothing holding it in. You have to give it a good pull. The tank should be loose but it is hard plastic.

Pull harder. They are a pain, but if you have the flywheel and all the other parts that look obvious, you just need to wiggle and pull.

It's funny that they'd put them in there that tight. I'm wondering if someone tried repairing the tank with JBWeld or something and didn't let it dry before replacing the tank. I'll try jerking on it some more..
