I personally don't care that much about the plated cylinder vs. the plated piston, but the "Sears Best" has the plated cylinder that everyone is so "hogged up" about!!!
Not to mention the fact that Andyshine77 is really anxious to port the new saw!!!

My sears best saw is an unplanted cylinder. Definitely original.

well I didn't want to come off as being a cherry picker. The guy was having a yard sale and it looked pretty ugly sitting there in the middle of his front lawn, I just helped clean up the neighborhood. I can stash it away where nobody will have to look at it. At least the brake handle isn't as hideous as the huge ones they put on the mini mac's... Actually I was on my way to pick a Partner p65 grabbed these 2 on the way there and on the way back the gal with the bow saw called me and I grabbed that on the way home. Set out to buy one saw and brought 4 home. Along with a new in box made in USA grease gun and a Kennedy Machinist chest upper and add on box full of great stuff. I had a good day...

That is the next to smallest top box and riser that Kennedy makes. Still, a new one is around $250. The two drawer riser is another $150.

depth gages, bore gages, mike's from 1 to 5 inch and digital calipers and a bunch of other stuff.
now I can measure stuff.......

I see a depth micrometer in a drawer with a small plunger type dial indicator. Next pic has a rod type I.D. micrometer. These generally won't fit a bore smaller than 1.5". Next pic has Mitutoyo digital calipers(don't get any liquids on them, btw) plus three 0-1" outside mics, three 1"-2" outside mics, and a sine bar. Next pic has some larger mics, I'd guess 3"-4" and 4"-5", along with some spring leg calipers(inside, outside, and hermaphrodite types). There also appears to be part of a depth gage in the "c" of the mic on the left. Last pic has telescoping gages, small hole gages, and a set of spring leg outside calipers.

Wouldn't let me put everything in a single post... :msp_angry:

parallels, gage rods radius gizzies and lots of other cool stuff........ don't often find this stuff at a yard sale...

First pic has thread wire sets, two protractors, and a precision square. I actually need a couple of sets of thread wires, so if you don't want them, let me know. A new set of Pee Dee brand thread wires is $25, china import equivalent is $15. The second pic has adjustable parallels. There are tons of uses for them in a machine shop, can't think of anything to use them for outside of that though. There are also some thread pitch gages and what appears to be a brown and sharpe dial test indicator holder set. I can't identify anything else in this drawer without more pics. Next pic has more adjustable parallels, a set of 1-2-3 blocks(shop made, I'd guess) and what might be a thread micrometer. Last pic has a set of Brown and Sharpe($$) radius gages, a gage holder, and the little bladed set could be radius gages, thread pitch gages, or angle gages.

Nice score on the tools, especially the bore mics.

There's only one bore mic, and without some way to check calibration, micrometers aren't much better than a guess. It's actually not that uncommon for people to buy machinists boxes for a couple hundred bucks or less, still full of tools. I don't know why, but machinist's tools don't typically have a lot of resale value. I've bought micrometer sets worth a grand or more for $50 and under.

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very succesful day in the shop. both the 306A and the Super 68 started and ran!!! now ive just got to clean up the bow and mount and bolt it back on the Super 68, and find some of that anaerobic permatex for the 306A. Thanks for all the help and advice along the way fellas!

I started to do this project a couple years ago. It's been long enough that I forget what went down. I just went out in the garage and found a bag of gaskets marked PP655:) There's a cylinder gasket, carb gasket, intake block gasket, and oil pump gasket:rock: I thought for sure that I bought rings for it, but I can't find them. Looks like they're nearly $30 for the pair! Anyone have a better source than I'm finding. I can't find crank seals on the shelf, so I must not have bought those yet either.

I did find a pair of rings that look to be about 58mm. Any idea what those would be for?

Brad, I'd try Lawnmower parts and spares. Parts for Generators, Pressure Washers, Power Tools, Chainsaws, Trimmers, Leaf Blowers, Snow Blowers, ATVs .... www.partstree.com or Rottman's for the rings. The seals are number 428746 and are the same on both sides.
