Hi Folks I've been wondering if anyone has done a thread on this series of small saws? The different specs, advantages, disadvantages, options, preferences ans maybe even the time lines. I for one would be very grateful and interested as I have several and I'm not sure where they fit.
Warm regards,

Lee

Good idea.

I could do that someday if I ever get time. Like laid off in the winter, get 5 years older and retire etc etc...

So I bought this little yellow Poulan 205 right before I got out of California. I had tried starting it before I left and even though it would start it shot a pretty good spray straight out of the top of the carb. So I took the reed valve assembly out of it today and sure shootin there was a small wood chip lodged under the reed not allowing it to close. Saw is running good now.

This saw looks just like my Poulan 2000 except it is yellow has a chrome Bore and is 38cc. That makes a nice little package for a top handle. I have no way of posting a pic yet or else I would.

I have been going out to my property where I have some 33" cottonwood rounds. I have been taking different saws out there every time I go and the old gray craftsman, Poulan 3800, that I did some work on sure surprised the heck out of me. I am running a 16" bar on it and it cut through those rounds in nothing flat. I have a red craftsman also that is a 3800 and looks like I am going to try it next. So far so good.

Your dealer is raping you. There under $2 from Poulan.

Well...............they stock 'em (and the price is actually closer to $3.......I just rounded up for simplicity and to include tax). I order them in multiples most of the time, but sometimes run out and need one right away.

Most folks don't know that they can get them locally (which means not having to wait or having to pay stupid shipping on a $2.24 part). I don't have any stocking Poulan parts outlets other than the Husky dealers.

Lars Engines is my local dealer. I like to support them. They don't give me crap when I want to order parts for old saws. They are one of the only old dealers left, and their prices aren't bad considering how expensive running this sort of business is in Ca. The 530019075 seals for my 4900 were just over six bucks through them. 530019051 and 530019059 seals were around $4 each...

That was pretty much my thought when I sent payment. Glad I wasn't alone in that thought. :D

Regarding the postage on the diaphragm shipment - the actual postage for shipping a single sheet of the material was $2.07, plus a little for the envelopes and such. There were 12 separate shipments and I don't have PayPal set up. On top of that, Tim paid for the gasket material itself, I only paid shipping cost. We set up the deal this way because Tim figured it would be prohibitively expensive to get the gasket material sent to Canada, then turn around and make 12 shipments back to the US.

I figure it's not very cost effective for 12 guys to send me a check for a few bucks, either for them or for me.
Plus, perhaps most importantly, it is my small way of giving a little back to all the guys that have helped me learn to fix up saws.

So, I'm not trying to make anyone feel indebted, I just thought it made more sense this way. I hope this doesn't rub anyone the wrong way.

Thank you..

very complicated.....all that mailing and addressing and such, time running around gathering things and messing around cutting it up. You could have probably rebuilt a saw in the amount of time donated to mailing the material. It is all very much appreciated.
Thank you.

Time well spent to get the oilers working again. David did most of the work. I just dug and typed on the computer.

A thanks from me goes to the two guys that shared the info on what and where to go get the material or it wouldn't have happened at all. Both gentlemen are from this site that likley don't visit the Poulan thread.
One from Canada and one from the US.

I didn't get the material yet, but I owe somebody for the postage, Tim maybe?

Somebody let me know. Thanks guys.

I'll second that! Someone had to find the right stuff or it wouldn't work at all.

DSS, I think Tim may be sending you the material. I hope so, because I don't think you were on my list.

Hey Tim What did I miss out on?

Regards,

:msp_sneaky:Lee

We all kicked in and built a still. It's located in Canada as the gov't here doesn't care if it's for personal consumption. I just finsihed mailing out the 1st samples to everyone. I hope it's good as I have 4000 gallons of the stuff.

You also missed out on a shared buy of some material to make Poulan 3400 - 4000 and their associated newer brother saws oil pump diaphragms which are becoming very dfficult to find.
If your 3400 doesn't pump oil, let me know and I will make and mail you a diaphragm.

What is the trick to getting the top shroud back on between rear handle and cylinder rear?
