deer.jpg I know I'm the noob here, but I thought this thread was about Poulans....
So....I fixed the picture to show the actual device used to harvest that nice deer.

You know Bow..Might not be far fetched as you think. I think the deer in this area are used to the sound of Poulan chainsaws. :D If I were to fire up a Stihl, probably wouldn't see a deer for days..

PP365, well i got to working on the 365 and removed P/C and cleaned them up (removed carbon build up and 2 small nicks on top corner of piston, reassembled with no cylinder gasket, reinstalled and new impulse line. Pulled her over a few times and all felt ok. Installed plug and dribbled a little fuel in her and she fired up and ran. She seems to have some stout compression also. I do not know if she will stay together but i will give here a whirl to find out, what b/c goes on this thing? 20"?

Most came with 20" bars. K041 mount, 3/8's pitch. You can modify the K095 (small mount Husky) bars to work and are easier to find in 3/8's.

I know this is off topic... but now with this out of the way, I can get back to playing (working) on chainsaws. :)
Poor guy was chasing a doe, and never saw the fat old geezer sittin there in his stand. Real nice large 8 pt.

The old Poulan geezer.

Gregg,
Looks like a nice deer and a nice shoulder shot.

Got a question for some of you that are familiar with the PP295. I got mine back together yesterday, and put fuel & oil in it, just to see if it would run. Well, it fired up in just a couple pulls, but runs like on a fast idle. When you accelerate, it slows down, then usually dies. Are the starting points on the needle settings on these much different? I think I set them about 1 1/2 turns out to start. I didn't monkey with it at all, was tired and called it a day. LOL

Will get a fresh start on it today sometime. This is my first experience with this type animal. Will get some pics of the thing later also.

Gregg,

You might even end up at around 2 turns, you will just have to try it and see.

If tuning the carb does not correct your problem then start looking for an air leak somewhere. I have rebuilt about 3 of the 295's and I did have one that had a small air leak at the clam shell because I did not get enough sealer on it.

Thanks for the 295 tips Tim & Roger. I'll look into it. Meanwhile I took a few pics of it. I bought a new rim style sprocket for it, but need a bearing yet it seems. The bearing in the old drum doesn't want to come out, so I just reused the old sprocket. Not in bad shape yet. New chain on it also. Noticed I'm missing a top cover screw also. Other than that, it should be good to go.

Gregg,

Thanks Kostas.. I thought about that very thing, using a shorter bar on it. But, I bought a brand new 20" chain for it. So gonna use this for awhile anyway. Don't know how much this will be used anyway. I didn't have one, and thought if it comes close to filling the niche the Partner 500 does, I'd be happy. Time will tell.

Gregg,

harleychainsaw 002.JPG Finally took a parts count and think I am real close to having enough to make my project harley chainsaw. Going to be a orange crankcase, clutch and recoil covers with black tank, af and cyl covers. Just because they were made in the husky plant and didnt put out a orange one. o_O

I'm beginning to think I should turn in my Poulan Man Card... The 3400 I just put back together is giving me some grief too. I never had much of a problem with this series of saw before. The low speed needle doesn't seem to do much of anything. The high speed works & responds great. I noticed in the last kit I got for this carb, was a hair different. There is usually a couple gaskets, diaphragms etc. in the kit that don't exactly match any in the carb. But, there is allways one that does. I assume some carbs were a little different. This kit had none that were an exact match for what was in this carb. I just used one that looked to be the best match.

I'm gonna take it apart and check it with another good carb and see whats going on. In the meantime, I did finish the muffler mod on this saw. I tried the slit in the side, like many of you have. I think I kinda like that route. :) Pretty simple way to open up the thing, without just drilling holes or being able to braze or weld..LOL

Gregg,

Yep and those muffler mods do work great.

Gregg,
Gregg, i just had the same issue with my late model (Poulan/Weedeater 3400) the carb doesn't want to adjust properly after a clean and rebuild. Saw starts up great and idles but wants to load up / fall on its face if i full throttle it. The H screw really does not make any changes when adjusting.
