I thought about bringing that up but didn't know if he was talking about selling value, buying value or using value.
As we "old timers' know they can be vastly different things.

You got that right Mike! 10-15 years ago I sold 4 guns that I liked real well...:( Then several years ago, replaced two of them. LOL I don't want to do the same thing with chainsaws! Especially with a saw like a PP380. If I sold mine, I soon would be looking for one to replace it. They are great light weight, handy, powerful saws. So it would take a hefty sum for me to part with it. And, we aren't even talking about a 4000 or 5200! :D

Gregg,

3400 - 4000 cylinder installation.

I really like working on these saws except for installing the cylinders, It's a 10 minute job at most that takes me forever.
I don't have a ring compressor. Any tips that might make this go a little easier? I've tried the zip tie method and that doesn't work too well for me.
I've had a number of cylinders off other saws and get them back on with no issue.

I wonder if a hose clamp would work better than zip ties?

Spend the $10.00 and buy yourself a ring compressor!!!!
You'll hate yourself for not doing it sooner!

Hey, Just cause Tim's Canadian, don't mean he can't do redneck saw repairs with the best of us! ;)

Thanks David, I did. Just left the rings out this time. I put "O" rings in. Report tomorrow on how she runs.

Would that be a Poulan ring compressor or are there others that will work?
The traditional push through types don't look like they will work. I did see some plier type that may work.

I have one of those generic ring compressors that came from Baileys. There are just red plastic that you squeeze together with your fingers. It took me a little practice to find a good technique but now it does work great for me.

I was just looking through my pile of manuals and found one for a Poulan trash pump and a Craftsman micro series conversion to a weed trimmer which I have several NOS units in the box

I have been looking. I can't really buy from Bailey's as their shipping cost is a joke. I tried to order a few 3400 oiler diaphragms (which they claimed to have) and they wanted $23.90 for shipping. I told them that their shipping was way out of line and asked if they could do better they suggested I buy them elsewhere. Customer service at its best don't you think?
The ring compressor would likely be the same or more. I will see if I can find one locally first. Definitely something I need to buy.
Thanks guys for the info.
