you can get a nice little meter for free at harbor freight with a coupon. It even comes with a battery. You can find the coupons in motorcycle and car magazines. I can't resist free. I bet I have 10 of them around here.
So Tim, if the multimeter stays at 1 then it's good? I always get confused if it should read 1 or if the number goes to zero or less than 1.

Stephen's pic's show it well.
In other words if you were to check a good on / off switch which is properly hooked up to the saw with the switch in the ON position, the meter should show a "1" on the left of the display (Stephen's pic of the the meter on the left showing a "1") which means the circuit has infinite resistance because it's not a completed or open circuit.
With the switch in the OFF position it will show zero or maybe a little higher number like Stephen's pic of the meter on the right. This indicates a completed or closed circuit. This occurs because the switch has gounded the coil to the saw frame which kills the ignition.
So, a bad ignition switch would show "zero" in the on or off position which would keep the coil grounded and the saw would have no spark.
I recently bought a 3800 which had a switch which was not grounded to the frame (paint caused a poor contact) so the swirch would not shut the saw off. The meter showed"1" in the on or off postions. I'm guessing it never did work from day one.

This old laptop I'm using is killing me. It takes 10 minutes to type a post because the cursor jumps around by itself and inserts my typed text all over the place.

We naturally associate zero with "off" and 1 with "on" due to life experiences.
To have this association reversed is confusing. There is probably a scientific name for it but I don't know what it might be.

I have that too. It's called aging or, correctly as geezeritis. The magnetic metal in your new parts disturbs the electrical flow of neurons in your brain.

Mine does it also and it is newer HP ENVY DV6 with a core I7 running windows 8. There must be a setting somewhere that I don't have set right. It splits sentences at random and inserts words between what I have already typed. I think it has something to do with the touch pad not being disabled or something. I don't know how to turn it off.

My laptop is too old and I can't disable the touch pad. You should be able to disable yours by,

Start > Devices and Printers

Then, right-click the device representing your computer, and select

Mouse settings.

You should be able to disable it in mouse settings and then use an external mouse.

I've seen a lot of touch pads that just take off on their own. Dell's seem to be the worst.

Also runs very good just haven`t found a bar for it yet. And Another 3400 is on the way. And I have a 3400 that I am re-building from the ground up.

Well go ahead and finish the tree off because you sure put a hurtin on it already.
