Jasper, you need a tester, you need to test all components of the electrical system, you need to check the switch with a tester, move on to the module and then to transformer etc. If you have a service manual for that model it will give you step by step instructions. I know i asked you this last year but have you tried fuel spray directly in the carb? I remember you saying the saw ran great when you last used it.

Tried fuel into the carb, no fire.

Yep,tried that as well. I guess tomorrow it will be time to remove the flywheel and take another look at the wires that run there from the module to the transformer.

Thanks for all the ideas!

4200 Bow bar score, original unmolested saw with original air filter etc, i am getting it ready to paint but wanted to share before I spray it.View attachment 332243View attachment 332244
Beauty!! Be sure to take pictures with the new paint. Let us know what paint and color you choose, too. It seems the Poulan green is quite an elusive color to nail.

I'm giving until the end of the week, then I'll open an official dispute with eBay. The last time that I went through a dispute with eBay I got frustrated by the limited options to choose from with no way to submit detailed explanations other than messages directly to the seller.
.
Just remember who is to blame - not Ebay (surprisingly). It's partly the seller (poor packaging), and the Post Office (for actually doing it and not logging it). Just want to make sure the anger is properly placed. :)

Was there insurance on it? If no, why not? What can/will the post office do about this?

Good luck.

that's just not right. It looks great as is. A little patina doesn't hurt it unless it is very ugly
The only ugly saw is the one that has the lettering H-U-S-Q-V... oh, wait.... :ices_rofl: Totally kidding!

Really, the older Poulans can't look bad, but that green paint is so magnificent! They just radiate coolness better with a brighter green paintjob. And that's what it's about, right? Looking cool.

I found two today. A 3400 and a gray 3,7. The 3400 had no bar or chain but the 3,7 had a new bar and chain. I hit a few dealers and the last one had these two as parts saws. But there were no parts missing. Within an hour of being home both were running like a champ. Got those two for 75.00 for both. And another dealer called me back about a 3400 he has needs a gas line he says wants 40.00 for it. Will have to go get that in a few days. I just got my camera back today from my son. So I know picks.

You obviously missed out on the membership orientation where it is explained that Poulans are not worth the effort it takes to throw them in the dumpster. Congratulations on your finds. You have done very well. After running a 3400 or 3700 most modern saws seem like toys. Just don't tell anyone.
I love them all, But the 4000 gets a lot of use.

I agree,i like the lime green saws. Funny though I don't really care for that color on any thing else.

I'm not angry......yet. My comments about eBay's involvement concern their dispute process. The last time I had to go through it I was presented with a list of 'click to choose' options, but none of them were adequate for the situation. My Poulan 4000 arrived without the bar, it had clearly torn through the box while in transit. I didn't want to return the saw, I wanted a replacement bar or a partial refund. Ebay's dispute options didn't cover what I wanted, and didn't provide a way for me to explain the situation.

It's my understanding that shipping disputes with the carrier have to handled by the shipper, which is understandable since they are responsible for the packing, shipping method, insurance, etc. For now I'm asking the seller to continue to follow-up with the Post Office. If at the very least the location of the package isn't cleared up by Friday afternoon, I'll file a dispute with eBay. I either want the saw delivered in a timely fashion, or I want a full (bid + shipping) refund and let seller deal with the PO to get the saw back.

What have you been working on lately, or have you been to busy digging out of snow to play with saws. How much snow do you have down there?

No time for saws right now, been working 12+ hours a day 7 days a week since the first of Nov. We got a ton of snow around here, gets old plowing at night after working in it all day.

I'm posting from my phone right now as I'm waiting for the track hoe to get here to load my trailer.
It should be over in a week or so and will get some time to do some things then,I got a shop full of stuff to do.

Bad thing is the job will be over and I'll be out of work, but there should be work in a couple months but a little time off will be welcome.

Good man. I just want to make sure that the right wheel gets oiled... or yelled at, as this case may be. ;)

Too many people have a bad Ebay transaction, but then try to go off on Ebay themselves, or someone else who wasn't to blame. Sounds like you are in control.

Keep us updated, though.

Good Morning: In checking the electric system on a 5200 the manual references using "Poulan Service Tool 31061."

Well I don't happen to have one of those on hand so was wondering what other tool or tools may be used.

Remember thrifty and easy work best for me. Thanks! Frank

If you have a multi meter that will check resistance you are all set. It replaces the test light. Light "on" in the manual indicates continuity (zero or low resistance) and light off indicates open circuit (infinite resistance, if the meter is electroic they usually display a "1" on the display's high side read out). If the light is to glow faintly or is dim, indicates higher than zero but not infinite resistance.
If you don't have a test light or a meter, test lights can be had pretty cheaply. (just paint it Poulan green).

Sublime green if I remember correctly!! Thanks Tim.
