The 4400 was in Ada, I had someone lined up to get it but he would not hold it and sold it this afternoon I really wanted the 28" bar that was on it.

Hey. Didnt mean to rain on your parade. I have been looking for a big poulan and the price was right. Actually was looking for a 5200. This will work.
Thought maybe you would like a pic or two.

Yep, but they run forever and strong too.
Thanks Tim, those 3800 pistons rings are pinned separately, with a centered pin. That's really a poor design
because you can't fit the ring ends around them like most of the imported/metric saws. I'm ditching the jug gasket and will give
it a run, hopefully it will run strong.

You need to loose the base gasket plus another .015" to .020" from the base. Then advance the timing about 2 or 3 degrees. Take the plastic intake adaptor and smooth out all the casting ridges that are in there. The divider on the intake port of the cylinder can be formed into a sharp edge facing the carb side. Widen the exhaust port and muffler mod it. Then you will have a good running saw.

Thanks for the tips, I'm not going to lathe off the cylinder until I see where I'm at. The exhaust port was widened & the muffler got a 7/8" ell added, so it will flow well.

Question for you folks... I ran across a PP655 at the local repair shop hanging from the used post. Looks like it's in good shape except for a small taped up crack in the rear handle. Very stout compression from what i could tell by giving the starter a couple pulls. Only "neg" is it's not a BP. Off the cuff, what would y'all say that saw would be worth...? Ballpark figure of course.

Those saws are getting to be very desirable and are commanding good money. The rear handles can be had fairly easily if you'll take a green large frame
P series Pioneer handle.
That saw may also have a BP cylinder on it. You would have to pull the muffler cover off to take a look. Most say he BP is not much stronger than the non BP saw. I wouldn't hazard a guess as to it's real value but if it was near me I would grab it if it was around $300 - $400.

Thanks for the info Fossil. I agree with you on the first sentence especially. I might swing back over there with a pocket full of tools and give it a look over... Actual comp, p/c inspection, etc. I doubt the handle would keep it or me from cutting with it. Now to see if i can offload my Mac PM 610 to get a little extra pocket jingle. I mean... it IS 6 cubes and all.

One word of advice on the 655, make sure the decomp is pushed in EVERY time that you pull the rope. If not, the saw will make a lasting impression on your hand, arm and shoulder... Always set it to TDC before pulling it over as well.

The price was more than right, glad it went to someone here. I was just going to add it to the collection, probably better in your hands so it will be a runner. I paid $80.00 for this 4400 and got the 2000 and Wild Thing in the deal as well.

[EDIT] Here is a better picture of it cleaned up.

Thanks for the tip Gary! That I could tell. I didn't have a chance to put a gauge on it and the guy working parts counter was tied up so I couldn't ask him, but slowly cycling it, I could tell it was very stout.
