Hey. Didnt mean to rain on your parade. I have been looking for a big poulan and the price was right. Actually was looking for a 5200. This will work.
Thought maybe you would like a pic or two.
No worries. You suck though, just because you were in the right place at the right time, and were closer than some of us. :) Very nice catch on a great model saw.

Here's a "you suck" for your great deal, too.

I feel like the kid that left out of the fun at a party - I want a pile of 4400s, too! :) (and some 8500s, and some 5200s, and 4900s, and....)

Gary has gotten so many great deals he now has a lifetime membership in the ArboristSite You SUCK! Club. I had to pay the going (fair market?) feePay price for my 4400. I just comfort myself thinking about some of the great deals that I somehow stumbled into, one of them surprised the hell out of me, it was a feePay saw that the Poulan guys somehow misssed.

=============================

I started a separate thread about my Craftsman model 360.352010 / Solo 651SP since it's not a Poulan. I might have posted some incorrect info---FWIW, it was the Redmax GZ400 / Craftsman 358.362180 that was assigned the Poulan 358. prefix.

Stephen's pic's show it well.
In other words if you were to check a good on / off switch which is properly hooked up to the saw with the switch in the ON position, the meter should show a "1" on the left of the display (Stephen's pic of the the meter on the left showing a "1") which means the circuit has infinite resistance because it's not a completed or open circuit.
With the switch in the OFF position it will show zero or maybe a little higher number like Stephen's pic of the meter on the right. This indicates a completed or closed circuit. This occurs because the switch has gounded the coil to the saw frame which kills the ignition.
So, a bad ignition switch would show "zero" in the on or off position which would keep the coil grounded and the saw would have no spark.
I recently bought a 3800 which had a switch which was not grounded to the frame (paint caused a poor contact) so the swirch would not shut the saw off. The meter showed"1" in the on or off postions. I'm guessing it never did work from day one.

This old laptop I'm using is killing me. It takes 10 minutes to type a post because the cursor jumps around by itself and inserts my typed text all over the place.

Hi Tim,

Put a mouse on it. I hate the laptop curser pads.

I finally got my 3400 up and running nicely. I tried a different Oregon bar on it but the chain seem to bind so went back to the original banana bar which still needs more filing or replacing. MLNA0039.JPG MLNA0038.JPG

A lot of paint chips on this CTC version but it oils very well. Chain brake is very sensitive with very little movement. It doesn't seem lock forward or backward.

Looking forward to getting it into some wood. Too much snow!!

I have been fortunate to find some great deals on saws over the years. The 4400 had been on CL for a couple of weeks when I found it, I think the ad said "Poulan saws". I clicked on the ad and the 4400 was at the back and I thought 3400 and clicked out. Something in my brain said the handle wasn't right for a 3400 and I took another look and saw a large chassis Countervibe. The seller drove about an hour to meet me just inside the Indiana border at a Bass Pro Shop, I think he wanted $60.00 for them and I gave him an extra $20.00 for gas. Both the other saws were scored so I probably saved this one in a nick of time.

Paint chips aside, it looks to be in good shape
That's like the one I picked up. Did you check it to see if it has a 3800 cylinder on it?
3400 cylinder bore is 1.81"
3800 bore is 1.88"

Mine has a 3800 P&C on it. Canadian Poulan mix and match.

I'm looking forward to getting saws into wood as well but it's buried in some kind of white stuff.

I started into a 2800 tonight. Well taken care of, low hour judging by a spotless p/c with great compression and over all lack of wear. I will post pictures when its complete, but was wondering a first year on these. Every piece including the flywheel is stamped '86, the earliest of this line Ive seen were '87. Also I could have sworn these saws had 4 bolts total holding it to the jug, 2 long the hold the front, baffle and spacer and 2 short that hold the back. This saw has only 1 short bolt on the back. Either way, its a nice saw Im looking forward to using.

I have the Craftmans version of that 2800, the 2.8. Had it apart 3 years ago for a full restore, tree limb broke the handle on it fifteen years ago. It had been sitting underneath the shelve him the barn for awhile til I got the small bite of CAD.

Not sure about the bore diameter but the comp was 3400 like at about 130psi. Do you take the muffler off to measure the bore?
