8500 might refer to rpm's while in the cut. 10,000- 10,500 is usually what a 3400 will max out at. However the best way is to turn Hi needle so it 4strokes( sounds rich) out of the cut but cleans up while cutting.

Yep! I forgot to say, throw the tach away and forget about it. Tune it in the wood.

Tach's are mostly just for rev limited saws.

Picked up another 3400 today. Don't ask me why! Seemed to be in real good shape so I figured it was used sparingly. Supposed to have bad crank bearings but we'll see.

Bob, I can't bring myself to pass one of those up. That series is my favourite mid size saw. Easy to fix, easy to tune, tough as nails and they put a smile on my face every time I run one.

thanks fossil! I didn't think ya could get anything for um now. where is a poulan distributor? all I see anymore is the fake poulans in box stores.

Unfortunately, the only segment of the chainsaw market that is growing is the homeowner saw market. That's why Stihl caved and Husky is heavy into them.
You have to figure that disposable saws provide more margin.
They are in most cases, sold on price point and Poulan saws are pretty good performers in that market. I would say they have a pretty good rep amongst first time buyers by the numbers of them out there.

Yup. I agree. Took a quick look at saw. Supposedly bearing noise was nothing more than the recoil squeaking on return. Comp is 120 which isn't great but won't affect it's running. When I get to it I'll probably replace rings and go without a gasket.

Bob, you're soon going to have to start a shelter for lost countervibes.
Yea, I now have 5 3400's not to mention 3700's and 4000's. Just wished I lived where I can use them. Just traded my Husky 346 and 353 for a 357 XP and a little cash with Neal Murphy. Husky's are my other like.

Gary, did you buy all of that stuff from the saw shop in Pa that went out of business? Where the Grandfather passed away ?

Wish I had enough money... I'd start a shelter for all those saws I ran across, too.

Guido, that's a beautiful NOS saw. What model is it?
