Why haven't I heard anything about other models like the 6000 or the S6000? I figured that a 100cc saw would be a nice addition to someone's collection.

Are they not sought after or just so rare that they are not worth talking about?

Well, to me there not really Poulans. Not that thats a bad thing, and I would like to have one anyway. :givebeer:

S25da

I got the new recoil spring from Calvin. I poured some fuel in the carb and choked it to start and it wound up like crazy for about 1 minute then died(both needles backed out 1 1/4 turns). So I backed the idle speed screw out and tried again. If it's fully choked it will fire and pop but won't start...Carb is rebuilt, gas line and filter are new, air filter is new...:chainsaw:

Change the spark plug!

Will it start with mix dribbled into the carb?

Sounds like time for a pressure/vac test.
If it "wound up like crazy" and is still getting fire after it dies, it's probably not ignition related.

Have you checked compression?
Who rebuilt the carb? Are you SURE it is back together right?

If it has ignition and compression the only variable left is fuel/fuel mix.

Agree that it is likely carb related. I'd pull it apart and reassemble being sure metering lever is at right height. I assume you used new parts?

Yes, new parts. And I adjusted the lever per the tilltson instructions...but I haven't have perfect success bending those levers.

Because they are fashioned after the 153S?

So with those out of the way, what is the biggest "pure" Poulan that is worth having? LOL ... not that I am likely to find one anytime soon - there never were big enough trees in this part of the country to warrant bigger saws from any brand. However, it would be interesting to watch out for them just the same.

Funny things can happen though, I just may have scored one of its yellow cousins of the 620 variety, but I will save that for the proper thread.

PS .... You earned it, my friend. ;)

5200, 5400 and 8500 all of which are 85cc.

They are sought after.
Made by Sacks Dolmar
it's the same saw as there 153 model
at 100cc's I have several 153's
and 2 6000's and i think they cut very well.
The 6000's are hard to find.

The 4000 is here.

Well I'm a happy man, as my sight unseen Poulan 4000 arrived today, and it's better then I could have hoped for.

It was so filthy I had to clean it up before I could mess with it.

It's in really good shape pretty much all over. I pulled the muffler and it looked perfect inside. Nothing broke or cracked that I could see, just a tear in the handle bar foam. Only thing missing was the outside bar plate.

The fuel line was a little stiff and loose where it went through the tank so I put a new line on it as well as the vent. The rim sprocket was a little wore so I put a new one on it as well.

Started right up and sounds really strong, but I have to sharpen the chain before I try it out and I ran out of daylight as well.

I don't think I'll leave the 28" bar on it as I think it's at least a little more then optimistic to think it can pull well it in the hardwood around here.(anyone want to guess what part of the country this one came from?)

Maybe I'll swap it out with one of the 24" bars from one of my 245's as I know they will pull the 28". Otherwise I do have some 20" bars to put on it as well.

Here she is.

Nice looking Poulan. It cleaned up nice!

Nice one! Mark, Looks like ya got a good one, and to think buying it sight unseen to boot. Some of you guys in Indiana must be living right.:)
Must be an Oregon saw with a bar that size on it. I would think a 24" would be about tops. I thought about trying a 24 with skip chain sometime in the future on mine. The 20" works great for me though. I tried making a short video today of my 3700 & 4000. Posted it in the Poulan Group.

Good luck with it:greenchainsaw:

Gregg,

That is a nice looking 4000!

Have you done a compression test yet?

Be kinda cool to get together with the 4000s and let them sing a bit!

I would bet it came from the west!

If yours runs as strong as mine, I guarantee it will pull that 28", just not real fast if its buried.

Congratulations....................lucky dog

Yeah I got one, it's in not so good of shape but here it is. Not much of a paint scheme, mostly green, and it's the older shade of lime green. I actully had this running a little but it's scored up pretty bad, so I just hung it up.

It's a manual oiler only saw, so I don't have much interest in it.

Gregg,

Yep it came from near Portland, must have been cutting some of that big PNW balsa wood with it :)

Actually this deal made me a little nervous. It was a craiglist deal, but I personally talked to the guy on the phone and he seemed to be in the know on saws and seemed like a honest guy and gave me a good description of it.

He seemed like a nice guy who just needed some money. He had it priced fair and I didn't try to haggle him.

After I explained to him that I was from Indiana and my daugther who lives in Vancouver, and worked in Portland would ship it to me, he offered to deliver it the 10 miles to her work place to show her that it was in good shape and collect payment from her. He even willing agreed to drain the fluids and remove the bar and chain for her to help her get it ready to ship.

So yeah I must have been living right for a day anyway.
