Yep it came from near Portland, must have been cutting some of that big PNW balsa wood with it :)

Actually this deal made me a little nervous. It was a craiglist deal, but I personally talked to the guy on the phone and he seemed to be in the know on saws and seemed like a honest guy and gave me a good description of it.

He seemed like a nice guy who just needed some money. He had it priced fair and I didn't try to haggle him.

After I explained to him that I was from Indiana and my daugther who lives in Vancouver, and worked in Portland would ship it to me, he offered to deliver it the 10 miles to her work place to show her that it was in good shape and collect payment from her. He even willing agreed to drain the fluids and remove the bar and chain for her to help her get it ready to ship.

So yeah I must have been living right for a day anyway.

Sounds like a good deal!! I passed on a 3700 here a few weeks ago for $100.

very nice saw!!!!!! i do like teh older poulans,, 3300 is my biggest, so far....
well, my b'day is next month, if you you don't have room for it!!! haha,
good luck with the new saw.........

Nice looking 4000 Mark. Got mine together yesterday and it shows 150 PSI. Going to run and tune it this morning using ear and tach. Then check plug color to be sure its not too lean. Included some pictures though I can't seem to show them open in the message Came with 24 in. bar. Interesting how the 4000 muffler has a side(more open) exhaust whereas the 3400 and 3700 don't.

I see how it is ... I post a few pics of a 4000 and NOW everyone wants one. :p
Nice looking saw Mark! I would have to give that big bar a shot with a nice sharp chain. Good luck with her .

Yes, do get one, I'd like to see it.

I wishfull think all the time also but to date, Heather Locklear hasn't appeared at my door yet either.

Hmmmm. Heather Locklear showing up back at the woods with a Poulan 4000 to help me cut wood.. Now thats a wishfull thinking "Dream" that keeps an old coot like me going and cutting wood! :) Come to think of it, shes probably an old coot too by now..lol

Gregg,

Dang! Thats a nice looking saw ya got there too! You and Mark both got good ones. The decals aren't even all scuffed off and intact. Most that I have seen that were for sale, look like the were tumbled in a dry cement mixer for several days, then soaked in a vat of crazy glue, oil and saw dust.
Looks like 24" bar is the way to go also on these. Will have to try one sometime. Good luck with it, and keep us posted.

Gregg,

One good thing about having an ugly saw is, Gregg, you don't have to worry about scuffing them up.

Thats true I suppose. LOL Like my brother in law, bought his first decent car, He was so tickled he said, to finally have a car he could wash!

I do want to get a 3400 to rebuild, and paint it to match my old Ford 8N tractor I use for wood haulin. I got a new set of decals, waiting for it, just havn't got the saw yet. Should make an interesting looking Poulan, painted like a Ford red belly tractor, red and the grayish-tan.

Gregg,

Too bad shipping is high from here to anywhere, USA. Someone offered me a Countervibe 3400 recently, but I was looking for something older so I turned it down.

Well, 3400's aren't to hard to find, they show up often on ebay, in all states of disrepair, and some that folks just want to much for. Just have to find the right one I guess, and be in the right place at the right time.

I heard that! Some figure to buy it as dirt and sell it as gold. :dizzy:

I've bought and sold many 3400's on Ebay. I bet w/o taking into account my time and parts I've broken even. The bidding process varys from week to week. Weird. Want to see overhyped bidding, look at ant Stihl on Ebay. I agree hat you can get some parts saws for little money b ut they require a lot of time and work. I generally use ebay to cull my saws. Buy one and replace it with another after fixing it up. No profit in these deals.

Very nice!!!!!! I didn't get to put the compression tester on it, (I forgot!) but I'm betting it's in that range also.

I got the new recoil spring from Calvin. I poured some fuel in the carb and choked it to start and it wound up like crazy for about 1 minute then died(both needles backed out 1 1/4 turns). So I backed the idle speed screw out and tried again. If it's fully choked it will fire and pop but won't start...Carb is rebuilt, gas line and filter are new, air filter is new...:chainsaw:

Quoting myself seems funny but I am adding to the "DATA". If all else fails read the instructions right??? Right on the saw it says you have to choke AND hold the throttle. When I tried this it pops right off and at first I kept hold the trigger and it runs real bad. Then I slowly let off the trigger and it winds up so high may hand about vibrated off (modified mark said I would like this saw). When I completely let off the trigger it runs really fast then eventually dies...Do I just have the metering lever not quite right? The Tillotson instruction page I have doesn't really describe this problem. The fuel filter and line are both new in case that matters, I can see through the hole in the gas cap, nice and clean.
