clutch shoes for 4200

Since I have a 4200 & 5400, I looked up the # for clutch shoe on an
a IPL (530023469) & googled that. First thing I noticed was Calvin's
site (CM Small Engines) showed stock.
I haven't heard from him lately on on AS, must be be busy with
lawnmower tuneup specials or ???

His mom isn't doing very well.
He sent me a prayer request last weekend.

I pm'ed him last night asking about her and how they were doing but he hasn't responded yet.

hey guys sorry for the delay (widom teeth are a bugger):)
this is how i got more air into the carb with the stock airfilter on my 3400:

i first burned (yeah i know it sounds hack, but it was the best way) the flocking off of a few key areas on the filter:

as you can see i also tried a dremmel tool to clean off the flocking, took way to much work so i ended up just burning-which worked very well:

i then cleaned everything up and used black silicone adhesive (not sealant)
to hold the screen on the filter:

the filter REALLY flows well after this very easy mod and doesn't let anything past but the air.
i have no idea what size screen this is (i got it out of the trash at work:))
modifiedmark: if you want to try some i'll send some out your way, i know you have a couple of these saws lying around.
67mustang: yours is in the mail, i ended up having to delay it for a few days as my mouth was killing me.
people, if you have kids with wisdom teeth, do them a favor and have them pulled-even if the dentist says they don't need to be. you don't want them going through what i did...

That screen looks alot like the stuff that the Poulan Pro 475 filter is made of.

If thats the case, it flows well but will plug up pretty easy.

This does give me a idea though and it invloves eliminating the stock filter all together.

Did you ever decide which carb you used and how much bigger venturi is it over the stock HDB?

I'm also wondering why you didnt flip the carb over and put the adjusting screws on the correct side as well as the throttle linkage?

Looks like you could have removed the choke shaft and flipped it to the other side as well. Not being critical, just wondering if there was a reason.

Guys, im trying to source some clutch springs for my ol' Poulan 43. The ones on it have lost all spring in them and I cant keep the chain from spinning at idle. I found this Clutch , and am wondering if it's the one I need, or does anybody have a source for some clutch springs for this ol' beast.

crap i forgot to look at the carb this morning!
the carbs throat dia. is about 1/8'' bigger than the stocker.
i had to flip the carb over like that to clear the the fuel and pulse line as they wouldn't fit under the top any other way. plus, the throttle linkage wouldn't work (the carb is clocked so the throttle would've been near the top left--couldn't get the linkage to work like that).
trust me:) i looked at all angles to see if i could make it work.
it's a pain to adjust the needles. you need to angle the saw so you can see them and then angle the screwdriver to get at them. good thing you don't need to get in there often.
this was a carb i had lying around in the shop for a while. just something i threw together on the cheap.
the good thing about the screen is the dusties and chips don't get stuck in it.
i'm pretty sure it's smaller than the stuff your thinking of.

BB I'm very curious. The portion of the filter within the black adhesive edges
appears to have a clear coating over the exterior side. I was expecting to see just the mesh after burning off the flocking.. Is this correct or just an illusion?
Bob

just an illusion, i think it's the way the flash reflected off the mesh.
if you look at the mesh in sunlight it does have a sheen to it. it's made of stainless (316 i be thinking).

3.3

here is the best saw out of the 3 i got this weekend. I am guessing this saw is very similar to the modern day 330. If so thats great, i really wanted one and for me this is close enough. Its a '91 I think, very low homeowner hours. Even wearing the orig bar. It fires up and runs like new. i havent touched it. I did check the comp, not that I needed to but it was at almost 160. It will pair nicely with my 2.8.
