I just kind took a break from the chainsaw forums for a while, but still been wrenching on any saw that comes along that needs it. Hope all has been good for you Mark. You will probably start seeing me around some. I always had fun here and anything Poulan I needed to know I would find it here.

One more minor thing to check, might be the simple on/off switch. I know its not likely, but sometimes just the simplest over looked thing will drive ya nuts..
Gregg,

.....Including ignition timing being whacked out due to flywheel displacement on the crank for whatever reason(s). A check for correct alignment there would certainly qualify as one of the simpler things to inspect as a possible cause of starting problems.

We did remove the flywheel and put it back on when we had the saw apart.

how's the paint holding up

Ok Jerry, But it shows signs of fuel eating the paint below the cap etc. It was just rattle can enamel from TSC.
I made several work saws, not show pieces, lol using Ford & New Holland colors. Thats what I used while farming. ;)
This particular saw has seen a rough life. Before I got and after. LOL I had a tree twist & turn 45degrees on me while felling it. I was chicken and left the saw. Tree came down and bounced. Whacked the snot out of the saw. Bent the bar and upper handle. Straightened them both up best I could, and it still performs well today.. Tuff old Poulan, even if it is blue..

Gregg,

Quick question. Are all these Poulan carb kits created equal? What I mean is, if I buy the cheapest kit I can find, am I giving up something?

why'd ya have to replace the plug cover? anything special you did regarding prep before rattle can painting the plastics?

The only air cleaner cover I had at the time for it was a 3400 cover. So I painted and used that. Later, I had a slotted 3700 cover on it.. And finally got this what I believe is for a PP395, which is dark gray. Got that from ModifiedMark by the way. :D

As far as painting them goes. I just cleaned them, and kinda went over them with sand paper & steel wool so hopefully they would accept paint a little better. I did not prime them.

That I can't honestly say for sure. Maybe some other folks will chime in on that. There was a seller on ebay that I use to get most from, can't tell ya now who that was. They were genuine Walbro parts as I recall. The kit that I got for the Zama, I ordered from Poulan. Havn't bought one for so long. They probably all come from China now. :(

Gregg,

Damn it, everything comes from China now! It probably doesn't matter much since they're so cheap but I'm not skilled enough to trouble shoot issues. I want to use a kit on this carb then never have to worry about it for another 20 years.

Cool. I finally have a chance to mess with the 375. Going to clean it up real good and take the carb off. I have to find that sea foam stuff.

Oh snap, just figured out what was rattling in the saw. The damn fuel filter is off of the fuel line. Feel like Dr. Bull right now.

I assume you have a copy of the service manual for the 3400, 3700, 4000, The 375 is the same thing. It will show how to install new fuel lines and their lengths, etc. Want to make sure you have a "duckbill valve" for the tank vent also. Even when the filter is attached, you might hear it rattle in an empty tank, since they are weighted.
