I believe they are both 46cc. Both are clamshell saws. If I were looking at an older 46cc Poulan I'd get a 2800.

How do those 2700, 2900, 2800 type saws compare to a PP295 ? I do have one of those. I havn't used it a great deal, but seems to be a pretty good 46cc saw. If ya like that sorta thing.

Beats me..Doesn't look like it was made to fit any of the Poulan's that I own. But with just the two slotted bar stud holes, looks like maybe it could be MADE to fit a saw it wasn't designed for.

Brand new 3700, kinda sorta.
Got around to getting this 3700 done this weekend. It was a brand new saw that the dealer used to rob some parts off of.
It was missing a recoil, top covers, front handle bar etc, which I was able to scrounge up from my parts box. Gregg being Gregg, sent me the 3700 style top cover for it. Thanks!!
I had a used 3700 recoil but the rest of the parts were black from a Craftsman version as thats what I had here
I tore the saw down some just to be sure, pulled the jug and everything was still like new so it went back together and I put new seals in it. The oiler was still perfect but the pickup line was shot. The carb came from the parts bin and get rebuilt along with new fuel lines.
I was going to just put the stock muffler back on but just couldn't leave it that way.
Runs out great now.
The first picture shows the bar studs and how you can tell this saw was new and never used. The second picture shows the Piston is new also.

I did a little bit different muffler mod on this one. The rear outlets are welded shut also. 
Looks good Mark! I see what ya did there. More of a straight out, outlet, without the angle change.
I still like the old style ya did too. LOL

I got both. 295 in project stage on bench. 2700 fine runner for it's size.
Now I worked on a newer 4620 and I wasnt to impressed with it all stock. Hopefully the 295 when I get done with it will run as nice as the 2700.
Ok, I see that the 2700 is a little more old school, like a mini version of a PP365. I started using the 295 & Pioneer 500 (thanks again Tim) lol, last fall as my light weight, small wood saws. I seem to like them both for that purpose.

Will the black top covers for the cylinder and air filter off of a 4000 fit on a 3400? I'm looking at a "3400" and it has all the top stuff including had guard from a 4000 and a starter housing of a 3400.

I got my pp 305 the same way.
I really like the 3700s. Problem is they don't show up often. My thin ring 3.7 and 3700 are strong runners. Maybe it's just me bu I notice a big difference in performance over the 3400 and even the 3800 which is the same displacement. Higher compression too. Needless to say those saws aren't goin anywhere.
What year is that saw? Can you get a comp number? Just curious to get a baseline psi from a new one
