Doing some work on my father in laws 5400. Replaced the fuel line but have a question about the fuel vent piece. It's different than the 5200 that has a spot for the duck bill valve to go on, the 5400 one just has a bigger hole. So what is supposed to go on on/in there?

Hmm, Thats interesting. My 4200 and both 5200's all use a duck bill valve there. I just assumed the 4400/5400 did also. I don't have any of the later models, so I ain't much help. Am anxious to hear.

Gregg,

Gregg,

Yeah I assumed it would be the same, but I'm with you, I've only worked on the 4200/5200 models.

Here's his 5400. It's a good runner but it needed new fuel line and I put some filter material inside the air filter since the flocking is all gone. Plus you can see where someone cut a hole in the top
cover for some reason at one point. I had an extra one that I had painted black, so I put that on as well and also put on a 20" b/c I had for him.

Here is a before pic.

And after I did everything and cleaned it up a bit. Runs good, just need to adjust the carb a bit.

Nate, I bet someone had mounted or tried to at one time, a KN type filter on that. ???
As far as the vent goes...I looked at a 5400 IPL & a 5200 IPL. Both have the same style vents, but I get different part numbers.

The 5400 IPL says 530010528 for the vent fitting & 5300026119 for the D-bill valve.
The 5200 IPL says 530023293 for the fitting & 530023166 for the D-bill valve.

LOL, :dizzy: I'm confused. Cause I'm sure I have the 26119 valve on all of my Poulans.

Gregg,

I think your right on the air filter part Gregg. I should have taken a pic of the vent piece last night but I didn't think about it. It's definitely different though and a normal duck bill won't fit on there as it is.

Will the vent from your 5200 screw into the 5400's hole? Maybe can just use one of those. I guess its just a place to hold a Duckbill valve. Not a high tech thing by any means. Just needs a way to vent I guess.

Gregg,

I didn't check but I think it will. I just don't have an extra one so I was trying to figure out what or how was supposed to go on this other one. Who knows, maybe they are the same and someone just drilled the hole out bigger and cut off the part where the duck bill goes. Not sure why they would do that though.

Nate, I went out and found one from an old tank/handle I replaced on my older 5200. Still has the vent valve & D-bill. If Ya decide you can use it, your welcome to it. I'll just mail it to you.

Gregg,

If the tank vent hole itself has been drilled out for some reason (and all else fails), the right combination of Tygon sizes (or grommet) to create a tight fit through the hole and end up with the right inside diameter line can be used to facilitate the grub screw approach to the venting.

Gregg,

Thanks Gregg, I may take you up on that if I can't figure this out! I'm determined to at least figure out what is going on haha! It screws in just like that and uses the same size socket to take it out but there is just nothing below the threads and the vent hole was big enough to put a small size fuel line in it.

I have a good one. There was a local guy that had a S25CVA on Ebay for 2 weeks that did not sell so I sent him a message via Ebay that I would post my contact info on Craigs in the wanted section. I was surprised when he just called me and is willing to hold the CVA for me until I go up to camp within the next month- he's only 15 min from camp. His family business which he runs now had the Poulan brand back in the day. I hope he has some other goodies lying around!
