Nate, I went out and found one from an old tank/handle I replaced on my older 5200. Still has the vent valve & D-bill. If Ya decide you can use it, your welcome to it. I'll just mail it to you.

Gregg,

Thats the same vent fitting that fit them all, from 4200-8500

Where is ModifiedMark when ya need him? Probably playin with that Wright oversized Sawsall!! instead of workin on real Poulans. :D:lol:

Gregg

I ain't been messing with any old Wright bladesaw. No interest in them. You will see what it is when I'm done with it. It is a big one though.

Nate, I bet someone had mounted or tried to at one time, a KN type filter on that. ???
As far as the vent goes...I looked at a 5400 IPL & a 5200 IPL. Both have the same style vents, but I get different part numbers.

The 5400 IPL says 530010528 for the vent fitting & 5300026119 for the D-bill valve.
The 5200 IPL says 530023293 for the fitting & 530023166 for the D-bill valve.

LOL, :dizzy: I'm confused. Cause I'm sure I have the 26119 valve on all of my Poulans.

Gregg,

That old duckbill PN was superceded by the 26119 PN

Gregg,

Gregg, I think your looking at the IPL wrong. The 23293 number is for the foam filter that goes down in the vent fitting. That vent fitting you posted is not available separately, if you look close it is listed as illustration # 24 that is the vent assy that comes with the fitting, duckbill and foam filter.,

Believe it or not that 530023293 number still shows as a good number at Poulan and list for $0.75

Well, wouldn't be the first time my eyes have tricked me trying to decipher them IPL's on a PC screen. :(

I think it may have been cut off and drilled out but it's pretty smooth inside.
There was a small piece of old fuel line inside which I bet they used as a vent.
Thanks fellas!

On another note, my $35 pawn shop "non running" 3800/3.7 hybrid haha is a runner! Put some fresh mix in, adjusted the carb and it runs great! Cleaned up decent too.
Now, paint the handle black or keep it in its hybrid glory!? Definitely getting a muffler mod though.

Don't know, thats a personal decision I guess. Its not gonna make it any more valuable, but might make it easier to sell, if you decide to sell it. If I had an extra black handle, I would switch it out, no doubt. If your keeping it to cut wood with, probably just leave it. There, that helped a lot didn't it. :D

Gregg,

I used to paint my saws or otherwise try to keep them purt near original. now, since I've discovered that once a saw comes into my possession it probly won't leave, I don't stress over that any more. still get the urge to color coordinate my saws but then I look at my frankinsaws and think I like them like that. not everyone can cobble together a saw. can also be an advantage when yer cutting with others who enter in thinking their "purty" saw is better than yer "ugly" saw. love the looks on their faces when theirs are outcut and then, when they hear how much I have into rat saw, their looks are priceless. $50 saw outcuts couple hundred dollar saw. just sayin.

I buggered the snot out of several threads on a J-Red 70E crank trying to pop the flywheel by whacking the nut on the end of the crank stub method. Didn't have the nut threaded on quite far enough, hit it off-center, and it skewed badly down the threads.

Took it to an old school NAPA shop near me that does a bunch of serious machine work to see if they could bail my ass out of a really stupid (and potentially disastrous) screw-up since those cranks just don't grow on trees. The shop owner looked at me and said, "left hand Euro threads, yeah, right. Yeah got ten bucks? I'll see what I can do."

He grabbed what looked like a piece o' string, wrapped it around the crank and just started slowly chasing the threads from the good area to the bad area then back and forth until he was satisfied. Spun a new nut on it and I was on my way. Called the string a 'millimeter file'.

Whatever it was, it was slick and saved my butt!

pogo, it would be fantastic if you could get that guy to tell you where he got the "millimeter file". been looking online but so far haven't been able to find one. I can see that as being extremely useful and would love to have it in my toolbox for those occasions.

I'll ask the next time I'm over that way. Probably a more common name for it than "millimeter file", but that's what he called it.

This sounds like what the guy used for Pogo. I never knew this stuff existed. Definitely something to keep handy for the occasional buggered up thread.

There are a whole pile of different sizes. Just for quick reference 1/64" is 0.015625" or 0.396875 mm.
