The 2 together

Yep! That looks like my usual choice of weapons when I head to the woods. I usually add a PP380 also, for when I want (need) a lighter saw.. Although I am no "professional", I use them anyway....Its heck being an outlaw!

Gregg,

Gregg,

You're good Gregg. I've seen you cut. They used to know me on a first name basis at emergency.

I do tend to be a little more conservative these days. I guess you could read that as not so stupid or maybe a little more cautious.

Tim, I have been real lucky over the years. I have an old pair of insulated coveralls with a clean slice through the left thigh area. Didn't scratch the jeans or me below. That was as close to disaster that I ever had in the woods with a saw. I do own a pair of chaps, but havn't worn them lately. :dizzy: You would think we would get wiser with age, wouldn't ya?

Gregg,

Hi, I'm new here what a great site! Been given a 3400, 1985 i think, clean and complete needs a rebuild. Can anyone give me the dimensions or numbers for the crankshaft main bearings and seals, should be able to source them locally (Ireland)?
Am I right in thinking it has auto as well as manual oil pump?
Found a brand new 18" bar online it is an Echo he reckons will fit.
I do'n't cut much, mainly local timber for guitars, Sycamore Alder and fruitwoods.
A genuine source for a workshop manual would be much appreciated do'n't mind paying.
Wife looked over my shoulder. Raised eyebrows and a sigh.

Hey guys quick question- I have a 3000 project saw I am putting together. I have a fine top end that has enough compression to be a good runner, however while I have it apart, I was wondering if a 3400 or 3700 piston and cylinder would bolt on? Also, thoughts on leaving out the base gasket or cutting a thinner one? A modified muffler goes without saying, but since I have the motor apart and $0 into it and the parts saw, I am considering playing around with some other mods. Has anyone had any luck with advancing the timing on these? Whats a safe amount, 2-2.5* or so?

Thanks!

The crank seals are SKF 6119 or National 253747 same both sides
The bearings are Torrington BF-108 same both sides.

I will PM you a link to a copy of the service manual. Look in your Inbox.

Gregg,

That wouldn't be too good of you did a nasty leg cut back in the bush by yourself. I guy I used to work for fell on his saw that was sitting on the ground with the chain going (air leak I guess). Fortunately he had his lawn tractor with him. It was touch and go as it was.

I haven't cut myself with a moving chain but have had a few stupid sharpening incidents. The one I did a your place hit bone.

Got a good laugh at work. Friend that cuts wood for heat.
Right now he runs a 272 and said he is going to buy a new stihl 391. I laughed at him and ask why he is going backwards to a plastic saw. I know it runs and cuts good as I take care of the smaller 311 saws here for guys.

But then he made the comment. Better then your poooouuloooon . I laughed again and said bring it I will even run my smallest matching cc poulan the PP415.

Boy oh boy he just opened a can of whoop azz.

Cleaned the garage out a bit last night, decided to take a picture of my "runners". I've sold a few off to acquire others, so this is what I currently have. Don't mind the orange one:)

Nice gang of saws Nate!! Real nice! Don't worry about the orange one..I have one orange non-Poulan saw also. 385 xp, guess its my link to the present, and that I don't totally live in the past. ;)

Thank you Tim, on the track of equivalents here. Seals and bearings are worn and you were right about fuel pipe, filter gunged up and white deposit in the line.
This is a well made m/c definitely worth a rebuild and a lot less expensive than the H or S I was looking at last week!
And you guys tune chainsaw motors ? I used to race 2-stroke bikes spent hours at the porting and the expansion chambers and fitting reed valves etc. gonna like it here.
