I want to take a poll on whom has sand cast saws. I know Mark and I have a few but was wondering what models folks have.

I have two of them. Both smaller ones. Model 31 & 47. I never use them, sadly. I don't own any with a bow setup.
I know Mark & Chris have a number of them. Mark's 71A & Super 72 are a hoot to run at GTG's. Big, heavy, mean and LOUD!! LOL Mine just collect dust. :dizzy: I just never really got into the sand cast Poulans.

Gregg,

I think the ones I have, were more of a "farm/ranch" type saws. The bigger ones, especially with the reduction drives were a more serious logger type saw. Thats what I have come to think anyway.

I had a 47 until a member offered to trade two Pioneer P-41 for it.
I had planned to make it a field expedient paint shaker.

Well I was happy t0 make that deal, those P-41's had laid here for a couple of years and I never did get up enough interest to mess with them.

The 47 is at home with the rest of its brethren.

I don't' think I posted this one here yet that I just went through a few weeks ago. It's now a good runner and cutter but it still don't want to idle the way I think it should sometimes. Tried 2 different carbs, and its all resealed. I think sometimes I just have to remember that there old saws and never did always do the things newer ones do.

Why is the cross over plate used on the p series saws? 455 525 655 between the oil and fuel tank? I re sealed two today with JB weld. 525 and 655

I taped a wire to the plate with duct tape and pre tested going in through the fuel cap hole. Once I set in place I pulled the wire off.

Need to get some seals for my new to me 3700. Looking at the Skf 6120 and Timken 253747. However my recollection was that they had an inner spring. The ones I'm looking at seem to have no spring. Is the spring necessary and have the seals changed?

Get the double lip seals from SKF which are SKF 6119. The 6120 (single lip) and the Nationals 253747 (double lip) have the garter spring as well. Often the pics of the seals are a generic pic and not the one you re buying..

The extra lip on most double lip seals are just a dust exclusion lip. The inner lip is the sealing lip. Both work well but you might as well have the extra help to keep sawdust out.

Yes the spring is needed to help seal under vacuum & the OEMs had garter springs, someone must have replaced yours.

That tornado was too close over in Garland, and now I'm running on generator due to the ice storm taking out my power.

This is the second ice storm we've had up here...and that's two too many
