I see you Virginia guys deep fry your venison, kinda like a turkey. Must be a struggle getting him in the pot.
:D

Gregg,

I don't know quite what to think on that saw. Looks like it has been changed a time or two over the years, with all the color combos on the parts. The crankcase looks gray in the first pic. Only gray ones I know of was on Craftsman saws, or replacement parts from Poulan were gray also. I have put a saw or two together that looked somewhat like that. LOL Mish mash of parts. In the end they work just fine though.

Gregg,
1st pic look grey but actually bare magnesium (no paint) saw has some white death from sitting on damp concrete

I have never pinched a saw! :innocent::laughing:

Gregg,

That's OK. I've pinched enough clearing dead falls for both of us. How's your memory?;)

Gregg,

I don't think there's any paint on the case. I have a Skil 3400 assembled in the plant where they assembled the 3400 - 4000 saws in Canada.
The clutch cover, rear handle, and starter are OK but I can cover the paint left on the crank case with a quarter.

Should be 65cc, I'm measuring 51mm although I think it should be 49.2mm so my popsical stick may be faulty.

In English terms, the bore is 1.935" I still can't get into the metric thing as far as visualization goes. Mine doesn't have the muffler side port either.

I should have measured the stroke on the saw when I had it apart. Mine says 64cc on the starter cover and Poulan lists it in a document I have as a 3.9 which would be 63.91 cc if we were trying to pick a troublesome flea off an elephant.
Mine's ready to go but I haven't cut anything yet. I had a hung up check ball in the oiler which I think was causing crank pressure to run down the oiler pick up hose into the oil tank. I'm guessing that because the saw was oiling out of the oil tank vent hole in an amount that any Stihl owner would be happy to see.

I'll get the pawl in the mail to you. I checked in a brake and it should cure the drag issue in the brake.

A 4000 at a reasonable price is a good score.

Tim, My memory is some where between shaky and selective. ;)
Truth be told I have pinched my fair share of saws. As I'm sure most have. Here is an older video I was doing getting some logs cut for our first Poulan GTG.

Was using my first and fairly new to me 5200. I had used it some in the past, before this video, but it started acting up on me. Would die when tipped on its side etc. Hard to keep it adjusted right. After I made this cut with it, I replaced seals, rings, etc. just as a side note. Anyway, i managed to get her pinched good in this 36" oak log. LOL
Good thing I had another saw with me, and made another cut further down the log and NO YANKING! lol

Gregg,

The 5200 seemed to cut very well. Even with bad seals.

Yes Bob... You will never hear me complain about a 5200 not cutting. ;) If ya get things right on them, there isn't much that will slow them down, thats sure. I'm getting anxious to try out the 655. Might be awhile though. Been raining like when Noah built his Ark around here lately. Water standing everywhere. :(
