For the flywheel on the 3400.

I stick a wood wedge between the case and the flywheel and then use a piece of hardwood and a hammer the smack the flywheel on the off magnet side (not on the magnets). Not much pressure with the wood wedge, just a bit. It will come eventually. Patience, and don't get ham fisted.

Some good info here on chain types, pitch, gauge, bars, etc. Well worth the read.

How many years can they go before it's gonna cause saw not to run or even start

I have only replaced a couple of mine on that series of saw. Not because they needed it, just because I wanted to, and had them available. They would have to be in real bad condition or missing to keep a saw from running I would think. Don't really know.

Gregg,

Yeah I guess but you forgot Ford whisperer, must have been because we worked on that first.

Mark, Couple months ago I replaced the ball joints, tie rods, shocks & locking hubs on my Ford Super Duty. There wasn't much whispering going on with that job! Lots of cussing though.. I would much rather work on an old Poulan saw.

Gregg,
Ball joints are time consuming

Good job on the saws Nate! They look great! Was also noticing the warning signs on your new propane heater. Reminds me of something else. :D

Gregg,

Thanks Gregg, I was pretty dang excited to get the 361 running and running good! Had to do a few things on that saw I've never done before, felt like a new personal saw victory for me haha! Great picture and quote by the way, so much truth!

they work. I do it all the time. I screw back on the nut till its even with the crank. This protects the threads. I then hold the flywheel the best I can so the saw is in the air. Then give it some real good raps. Heavier the hammer the better.

Yeah it's pretty nice to have that heat. I just looked it up and it looks like they are around $50 and Home Depot has them as well as several other places.

It won't heat the whole garage very quickly but it's great next to the work bench.

If you have room, run a small fan in front of it to spread the heat around quicker.
