Pulled apart and put back together the 3000 after work. Straight forward. Motoseal case halves. Most time consuming was making a gasket out of aluminum for the cylinder. Sandwiched the Al in Motoseal. Intake boot, impulse and seals are sound.

I am going to hold off on firing it up for a few days to let everything set up really well. Gassed and ready to go. I was inattentive when screwing the air filter back on. Slipped and punched a hole in the nylon. I patched it with some silk.
Heck , I rarely use a cylinder gasket any more.

Well the ole PP 375 is coming along but not without some shameful words. Lost one of my new rings so had to put an older one on the bottom. Cleaned out the lower ring groove and piston moves freely. Compression is not great at 135 but it'll have to do. Replaced seals and forgot to use Dirko on the clutch side seal and sure enough it leaked. Not sure if that was the reason for it leaking but I like the added insurance of Dirko. Will pressure/vacuum test it tomorrow.

Some of the 8500's did. I have an NOS chain brake that could be purchased from the dealers in Canada for the 4200 / 5200 saws.

All of the IPL's I've seen for the series show a chain brake in them. They're likely scarce in the US except for the 8500.
The 4200 / 5200 brakes do not fit on the later models and vice versa. Different size bar studs. I'm not sure of the bar stud center spacing is the same 5/16" to the 3/8" stud saws
pulled mine apart for cleaning today and the brake band is broke. guess that will be like hens teeth. on a good note comp was 180.

One thing is for certain it seems in BC. The large Countervibes are by far the rarest saw in these parts. I am pretty certain Pete is the only guy in the province with one. Unobtanium locally.

Access to piles of expensive trashed Stihls though. "Well maintained" so I am told.
i never knew what a countervibe was until about 3 weeks ago when i saw one for sale in an auction flyer. did my homework on AS and ended up with 2- 5200's last week. CAD? nah it won't happen to me.

My father in law gave me this hatchet this last weekend for splitting kindling at our house for our outside fire pit. Pretty neat little hatchet, it's a Plumb, made in the USA. Seems fairly old, but don't know a ton about it.

That looks like my dads hatchet, he's had it since I can remember. It still gets used to cut kinlen.

Anyone grab the Craftsman 3.7 off of evilbay? Without being able to actually see the saw in person I think it went high at $150 + $30 ship. I picked up my 2300CVA from that seller about a year ago and pictures can be deceiving. There might be a very undesirable reason that saw looked so clean. ;)

Anybody have a p/n for the recoil spring for a 3700 counter-vibe? Lookd a a couple different sits and couldn't fin anthing listed for the 3700. 3600 and 3800 but don't know if they are the same. M dad and grandfather bought this in the early to mid 80's and I'd like to get it running again. I remember this thing being a heavy saw, and it never slowed when the put an 18" bar on it. I'd appreciate a service manual if anybody has one they could email me.

Thanks.

try looking at the 3.7 craftsman. sears.com/parts the pulley covers are interchangeable

Thanks for the info Tim!

I didn't know that Guy, I'll head there and see what I can find.

Either the fuel tank is leaking or it's the cap also. Once I get the recoil replaced I'll tackle that. No since fixing a leak if I can't start it!

My father hasn't used it in 20yrs, complains it's just to heavy for him. I want it running just for the nastaligia of it. Stacked a lot of wood cut by this saw.

That 3700 you are fixing up is a darn good 61cc saw. If the tank is leaking at the cap put an "O" ring on it. Sometimes ham fisted owners will over tighten the cap and crack the filler neck.

OR,

The tank vent, which has likely rotted away is leaving an open hole in the top of the tank.

Those saws almost always need a new vent line, duckbill check valve, fuel line and filter.

A carb kit for the Walbro HDB carb would also be in order.
