Ok men put your thinking caps on, working on my 361 i just got, rebuilt carb, it has the wick filter system. I know the tank is clean the filter is ok. The saw will start and run on idle only, if i try to go WOT it bogs and dies, no matter where the needle is, if you go slow with the throttle it will speed up about to the point it should run on hi side then bog and die, but it will idle all day long fine. Any thoughts?
Restriction in the pulse port for diaphragm? idk that's wierd

If you got a felt wick pickup, sounds like you have a 360 not a 361...

Did you put a new screen in the carb?
Did you go through the ignition?

Well it says 361 on the starter cover but it could have been changed it definitely has a wick filter, i havent done anything with the points, maybe i should convert it to electronic ign.but it sure seems like fuel issue

I agree but i cant even get it to go WOT at all, like when it transitions from lo to hi side fuel the hi side fuel isnt there.

Anything is possible, im going to check those welch plugs and make sure everything is clear everywhere, then go from there

Mark is 100% correct check the bore on that saw, also see if it has an auto oiler. Give us a picture. I have a 360, 400 and 450

You need to double check the ignition for sure. Make sure the spark will jump the large gap on a spark tester.

Once that is done if your still having problems, you will probably need to open the side of the fuel tank and take the wick out to make sure its not blocked up by the fuel well. You really cannot see the wick condition very well by just looking in the tank.

The wick in my 400 was in very bad shape but it cleaned up well after soaking in a can of lacquer thinner for a week.

You can reseal the tank side cover with motoseal.

The 360,400 and 450 are the only saws like that where you can remove the side of the fuel tank. DO NOT try to remove the tank side cover on the later ones with the conventional fuel pickup like a 361, 401 etc unless you want to remove only the screw heads as they will break off...

This is what the wick looks like removed and after it was cleaned.

O wow i didn't realize it was that large of filter i know i put a long fuel line on the metal part up by the carb and was able to blow back through and watch bubbles come up through the fuel so i didnt think it was a clogged line issue, i will also see it if the spark will jump a wide gap after work today. Thanks for the ideas. So im.wondering now if the starter cover had been changed, which isnt gonna tell me much with the serial number. So if it has a wick filter it has to be a 360? Could it be any other model?

If you blew back like that the wick/fuel pickup may be ok, you didn't say that before. Diagnosing these are hard over the internet. You can eliminate the fuel wick by just running a fuel line and filter from the carb and dropping it in the top of the tank with the cap off just to see if that clears up the problem.

I thought that this morning about running a nurse line right in the top, i agree it difficult to type in words whats going on, i know from an empty fuel line, you can see it pull fuel all the way to the carb in like 2-3 pulls so i cant imagine it not being able to draw fuel, i wonder if theres some garbage in the passages under the welch plug for the hi side needle

If i could figure out how to post a video of its symptoms it would probly be more evident to whats going on
