Ok im gonna get those as my NAPA deals in skf, im also gonna try to track down some for my poulan 3700, i went to tune it today as well its wierd in that i can totally close off the lo needle and it will continue to run, 1 turn out is pretty heavy. Not sure what its deal is

I thought I crossed that PTO side to Dichto #07111TB, you may want to double check that number as I'm on a cell phone. The Dichto is a preferred 2 lip seal like the OEM, the SKF #7414 is a single lip, but will work.

/QUOTE]

Just to say, I am correct earlier when I said I thought the original PTO side was a single lip seal.

I just found a NOS 1914 seal and it is a single lip, not a double lip like you thought and is just like the SKF7414

This seal is also used on the direct drive sandcast saws like the 81 etc.

Timken 253747 or SKF 6119 will work for your 3700.

Some will prefer one over the other, I have used both and are just fine

But looking through my box and notes I find the FW side seal that you came up with is wrong, the Dichtomatic 056081TC is only for a .500 shaft. I recently came across a bag full of NOS 1986 seals and they are for a bigger shaft. The SKF 5523 is the correct seal for the fw side.

So let me say the seals for a 360-451 are

SKF 5523 FW side and SKF 7414 for the PTO side.

Randy these are the seals I think I originally came up with and had in that list that I gave you to go over. The Dichtomatic 07111TB appears to be correct for the PTO, I don't know, never tried one.

I do at this point know that the Dichtomatic 056081TC that you came up with is not correct for the FW side. It's maybe my fault I didn't catch that sooner. I actually bought a couple of those and just threw them in my seal box, but again I didn't have a NOS seal here to compare to and wasn't tearing them back out of my saw that already had the SKF seals in it.

I think you got caught up in trying to find the "improved" seals with the double lip on them, which is fine but I do not go out of my way to find double lip seals to replace a OEM single lip seal.

The outer lips most the time are just a dust seal and when on the FW side on like a 361 that used a closed point box on top of that seal, I find a double lip seal to be of little advantage.

If I remember right the original PTO side seal was single lip as well and those have lasted for many years

Thanks, All these numbers make my head hurt!

The 056081TC shows to be 9/16" or 0.563" in the catalog. They may have boxed the wrong seals as I remember Dichto had a catalog error on one of the 306 seals when I bought a half dozen from Fastenal. The 361 FW side is a common 9/16" by 7/8" seal.

The PTO seals that I replaced on my 361s were double lip, that's not to say all 3 saws weren't changed before me though.

We're well covered on Poulan 361 seal options, that's for sure.

Ive never ran a 262xp, but i was always impressed the way my 375 farm pros ran, i did some muffler modifications on my 3700 and i advanced my timing just a smidgen by altering my key, that made a think a noticeable difference.

Yeah right, makes my head spin also...

I have two of those FW side seals, I only took one out of the box. Damn I got to go check the other one now. LOL

You maybe right that these maybe missboxed as I'm trying to remember but I probably used them before on something.

I have not worked on one of this series for quite a while, but a friend just got one of this series so we'll get to the bottom of it soon.

Where do dichtomatic seals come from ive never heard of them before. My carquest deals in national and my NAPA deals in skf

Im gonna order some skfs on monday for the 360 and the 3700 ive got a set for my 5200 already and two sets one for my p41 and one for my bp655. Im gonna be busy pretty soon.

Well, I left the Poulan familyb and just picked up a Husky 262xp . Don't have it yet but wonder how the old 3700 would compare.

Nothing wrong with that, the 262XP is a great saw.

That said, I have one and its been ported by Super3 but I can't tell you the last time I used it. I prefer a Super 380 or my PP365 as in the real world they will put as much wood in the truck as the 262 in a good day.

I just like the way the Poulan controls are laid out better and they just handle good to me.

And by the way Bob, you got any friends down in Houston?

Keep that up there, we got it bad enough being in single digits

We have been pretty cold for about the last week and a half. After tonight it's supposed to warm up they are talking highs in the upper 20s and maybe even the low thirties this coming week. Just Have to throw another log on the fire and snuggle up to mama tonight.

The weight is not bad either.

Been toying with advancing the timing but haven't gotten around to it. I wonder if it makes that much a differance.
