The reason they put them on the passenger side, is so you can hit that pump guard with you car while you are having to backup to the pump because some a%$$ took up all the room around two pumps pulling a big trailer hauling chainsaws. [emoji1]

I picked up 21 Poulan manuals / service manuals today. Here are some of them

well got the 245a from hell going. Tested all wires and no breaks. Closer inspection showed no worn areas. Switched out the on/off switch with a spare I had and it fired. I know I disconnected the switch earlier and didn't get a spark so I'm not sure what I did but its working now. BTW, anyone know how to check a coil with a voltmeter that's off the saw?

If it is a points ignition coil, you can check the primary windings (wire from the point to ground); resistance should be relatively low - less than 100 ohms. Check the secondary windings from the plug wire to ground, resistance should be relatively high - I have seen everything from 2,000 (2K) to 8,000 (8k) ohms.

You can also check the condenser with an ohm meter, just keep switching the ohm meter leads back and forth (body of the condenser to the wire coming out of the condenser); you should see a little blip on your meter when you touch the lead as the condenser charges and discharges through the meter.
