Tim - the chain is sharp, the bar looked better before I roughed it up in that elm.

I wouldn't ever think you would run a dull chain. I meant the bar looked very nice. I like those Windsors.

As far as a dull chain goes,
Here's a guy with a 4900. 77cc version of the countervibe. Can you imagine cutting that elm with this chain?
These saws have a lot of power.

Pushing pretty hard

What is wrong with me! Just bought two 3000 parts saws. It's gotta be a sickness.
I was watching that for days waiting for one of us to snag it, good luck looks like a great deal if the one is salvageable, the other could be with a top end.

Scored this yesterday

I picked up a Poulan pro 335 variant saw that was missing several parts. I have a Poulan 3300 with 130psi compression but the compression on the Poulan pro was 160 psi. I painted the saw black and I am going to put the Poulan 3300 recoil and clutch cover. I measured the bore on the Poulan pro and it is 1.678". Does this mean the saw is a 335 or a smaller one. It has the two thin rings and the chrome plated cylinder. What saw did find since it has the 1.678" bore? Thanks

I was thinking my compression gauge is reading 20 points too high. I am getting 195 on 10 series MACs and 175 on other saws. Before my gauge started reading high my Poulan 3300 checked to be 130 psi and now it reads 150. So, the Poulan pro read 180 psi so I assumed that the compression was 160 psi. I took off the top ring and checked the gap and yikes it's way too much.

Also there is a little scoring on the intake side of the piston.

Also there seems to be a small scratch all the way around the cylinder near the top of the bore. It feels like it is a scratch instead of transfer. It is enough to catch and fingernail. I am puzzled by the high compression reading however. Am I missing something?
Thanks

Well, I got the Poulan 245A from Hell going. After two JB Weld fixes on the reed valve tunnel and some Dirko around the reedvalve adaptor I got the pressure and vacuum to hold. Wringing my hands in glee I was excited to start the saw. LO and behold it wouldn't start. Damn. After some looking I found there was no spark. Heck the saw started and ran a couple weeks before. Rechecked points, switched condenser with my 306, still nothing. Finally switched coil and it fired up in two pulls. Only thing left is to mount the bar and chain for a final tuning and to look for a coil for my 306.
