Just bought a 5200. It looks to have very minimal paint wear. Compression is said to be north of 150 PSI. All it needs is an air filter and top cover. Please let me know if you know where I can find these parts.

Seems like I had an air filter left laying. I'll have to check. No promise's though.

Its about darn time i get to enjoy my poulan. Came home today and just had enough time to cut a little wood.

I cut and loaded this in less then 30 mins. I sure love that 60cc power:hmm3grin2orange: For those of you that think its heavy, i barely noticed it:biggrinbounce2:

I didnt have a single problem with it besides the oil coming out on the side, since i dont have the outside guide plate. Still oils good though....

I think this airfilter is shot! Especially when i cut that dusty wood!

That is one of, if not the easiest saw to work on I have ever seen.

After spending several hours getting the new fuel lines installed on mine, I may have a different opinion....

Brad, this is what the top cover looks like. (I now have read forward and see you have found one).

Brad,

This top cover isn't perfect but it would take one of the real "GURUs" like Mark or Steve or Gregg to tell, when you get it on the saw.
It'll do you until a better one comes along. After all it's just an old Poulan!

Mike
Thanks Mike!!! You're a real friend.

That would be awesome.

Thanks.

Whats your plans for it? Leave it as a bow saw, or put a big bar on it? Be nice either way!
Gregg,
Does anything have to change to put a regular bar on it? I know my 245A uses a different clutch cover and handle mount.

I have the bow attachment on mine and no bar. I do not think there would be an issue going to a bar, the problem comes in going to the bow with the notch in the clutch cover. My 245SA has a bar on it but the bow clutch cover.

Got a question, that S25 I got, it's got a small chain like 1/4 pitch?? Did they use this type of chain in the 70s, also any way to determine the year of manufacture???

Grab some of Ms. ClayKann's (or the wannabe, or the want to be Ms.) nail polish and coat the holes in the filter, permatex would work also. Til you get more than about 10-15% covered, you is good to go then.

Texas sawing in winter

I lived & worked in Harris County TX in 1980-1982 (Houston area),
never seen a snow, but a lot of rain. Dallas got some snow on the road
about that time, looked like a demolition derby on the TX news.

4000 brake

First tho, Great score on the XXV Dave:bowdown: I wouldnt use that one, there are plenty of non NOS 25s to cut with.
Clay, good to see you putting that 3700 to work!
Here is my 4000 wearing its new chain brake. Now, I have no problem running this or any other saw without a brake. I got this because my other 4000 needed a clutch cover. I heard about this one and now this saw wears it and my new 4000 will have the other one.

You found two-TWO-of them and pigged em up for youself?

Way to score brother, good for you!

You spent several hours putting a single fuel line on a 5200? You joking me are you not?

I really hope your not serious.

You take off the top cover which is one nut, take off two nuts that take the air filter off, then you pull the old line out through the tank that you hooked with a wire.

You then slice the new fuel line at a angle, run a small wire through the hole in the carb box and run it out through the tank opening. You then poke the wire through the angle slice in the fuel line and pull it up through into the carb box.

Hook it to the carb and put the filter on the tank end.

Thats the most easy fuel line to run in the world!

Joe that's cool, it's got that fancy French writing on it and everything!

What part of Canada did that come from?

Just so happens I did get my 4000 out today also to put the new Oregon fuel lines on it. (that's another story to finish when I get time)

I took some pictures to do a step by step again to help the new guys but I'm wondering if I should just start a new thread in the main forum so it wont get lost in this great Poulan thread or maybe inlist my daughters help and maybe do it up as a word document that could be down loaded?

What do you guys think?

This 4000 has been sitting dry for sometime and after the new fuel lines were installed it started and was running in 4 pulls. I love this saw!

3400 porting attempt

Had some spare time so i thought I'd open up the exhaust port on a spare cylinder I had. First attempt, so let me know where I should make some improvements. The first pic is of a stock cylinder and the second of the ported cylinder. Haven't cleaned it yet as evidenced by the metal fragments.

Yep got down to 27 last night starting at about 5 i had 4 phone calls for wood. But i only had enough to take care of 1 customer. I got a job now during the week and school during the weekend so i dont have much time anymore.
They freak when there is a freeze in the forecast or sleet. Everyone stocks up on groceries and water. Pretty humorous at the grocery store, with all the rumors flying around.....
