OK guys,I got this PP5020AV that I fired up[ yesterday & couldn't get it to idle.I went to turn the idle screw up & it broke free from the carb body.I can get a replacement carb from Sawzilla for $23.My question is how in the name of the sweet baby jesus does the carb come off?I pulled the 2 nuts off that hold the plastic AF housing on,but the housing won't come off.I pulled the choke lever off & the switch lever too.Still acts like there's another nut or screw holding it on.I tried disconnecting the throttle assembly too,all to no avail.

Mark,I'm just catching up on some older posts & I saw that you were looking for reasonably priced Poulan parts.Buford Parrish in Ky.has a ton (or more) of Poulan parts. He's like Bob J.in that he does phone orders only.At least Bob did orders by fax too.

I have a saw here that may have the same carb. Got any pics?

Bob,this is the saw that I bought from you back in Jan.(I think).I had it running like a champ after replacing the ignition module.I can't get any pics of the carb because I can't get it off the saw.

The one I have still is the same series just one size smaller I think. Probably the same carb. You are welcome to it if it is.

Hey guys I have green Poulan fever!! I have a 2000 2-2600's 3-3400's and a 4000. I have a 3800 power head being offered to me delivered to my house for $120. He claims good compression and spark. I dont have a 3800 but do I really need one?? Another deal on 2-3400's with 20" bar and chains for $75. Another 3400 with New 24" Power match bar and full chisel chain $$40. Also found another 2600 & 3400 for $50. I can buy a 2600 4-3400's and a 3800 for $285. 6 complete saws that run or will run. How can I pass this up????? Where do I stop? I cant help myself. I keep looking. I love these old saws. You cant kill them. I do muffler mods on all of them. I cut the base ported cut the timing key on one 3400. New 20" bar and chain. This thing is crazy fun!! Dont slow down in 20" red oak. Dont know how long it will live but sure fun till in blows up. LOL

Very nice? What are all those? 6400 3400? I cant tell the other two. I have a 4000 all thats done is a muffler mod. Cuts good like to make it like Novice Lumberjacks polarizer 4000. That thing runs at 11,500 rpm in the cut pullin hard. My hot rod 3400 will run with my 4000 now. It pulls like crazy!!

That's a really nice picture Mark with saws placed on the logs midground, which were used to burn in the pit foreground, and the fresh cut lawn with old houses in the background. Well thought out.

I've got a couple of saws that had non-oiling issues - a PP4218 & a P3816.Both of these saws use the same oil pump as far as I know.I pulled them both out today & took them apart for cleaning. The metal piece at the end of the pump that gets inserted into the bar pad has awfully small holes in it.What would happen if I drilled them out about 1/32 or 1/64 larger? Would that give a better oil flow? They're just not putting out enough oil for my liking.BTW,the metal pieces were clogged with dirt & sludge, probably from sitting.A spray of carb cleaner & some air took care of that.

I had a 4218 in the shop this week for a carburetor kit. When we ran the saw to get the tuning right, it left quite a puddle of oil...my estimation is the oil pump on those puts out plenty of oil. Same thing on the one that was in last week (fresh fuel and tuning, chains sharpened), lots of oil with the stock set up.

Put the root cutter 4000 to work again today. Using crap chains and sharping all the time is getting old. So much dirt embedded in there.
Got a carbide chain in the works. Just got to break it down to right DL when it gets here.

Dang thing survived the good hot fire that burned everything else.

This is the apple tree that I pulled root ball out of the ground last year after tornado took it out.

Broke and mended that stihl carbide chain down to a 72DL and used it on the 4000. Was like cheating cutting that dry dirt encrusted root ball stump up.

Very impressed how it can just keep on going when a regular chain dies quickly.

Will save pics here too later showing how far regular chain went before begging to be sharpened. Not far. Then the carbide never stopped and did the whole job and still dont need touched up yet.

2 of those pics is far as regular chain went before begging to be sharpened. Then carbide that keeps on going. Wouldnt have believed it if I hadnt seen it myself. Now I know why FD's use them on the roofs etc. They are unreal.

Hello Kevin , never saw that stihl carbide chain . Years ago saw some carbide chain that had a similar carbide cutter that was attached like circle saw blade .
Was the regular chain that you used also a semi chisel chain ?
I would call this RD3 they had semi safety. It has the high drive link like on 3 chains. https://www.stihlusa.com/products/chain-saws/saw-chains/rd3/

The regular chain was whatever I grabbed out of the root pile junk chains. It might be semi or full chisel. I just sharpen one up and go. Dont care what it is since these chains are one step from tossing anyways. I know it had safety bumpers. Tooth I cant recall or brand.

We been talking on CRG about them.

Now forester has a full chisel and semi half cost China made chain. But they seem to loose carbide piece way they are put together. Several folks have these in many different names. I'll post a FC one of theirs.

Then one I have.

Going to check and see if the dirt I seen falling on the air filter cover got by. I was having to wipe junks away with my hand from time to time. If I remember how the inside of how the 4000 af cover is made I was thinking I would be ok. Why I just wiped away and kept on cutting.
I just recalled this is the af cover with the back of it opened by past owner too.
I also need to check my tune to make sure not to crazy of rpm. With the work the past owner did she was a cutting sob and and wasnt slowing down. I try to keep these older ones in a real safe rpm due to type of bearings used.

Later = To cool nothing I can see got past unless dirt was finer then the mesh filter.
I will ad pics to top.
