ok here is the pic of the one that was on it i have replaced it with one identical to this! see the lil indent on the back should an o ring go in there? or could it be the o ring on the oil line is flattend out which i think it was?

See if any of these help.

Mine had an 'O' ring behind the brass flange of the oil pickup tube. It was 'mushed' so I replaced it.

Your crankcase signal port is much larger than the one on mine. I used a 1/16" drill bit shank to line up the port before tightening the two mounting screws.

The only gasket I had to make was one for over the diaphram. there wasn't one on it to begin with and that's where it leaked. You got one?

You got the little foam dounut oil filter?

I used a hand paper punch to nibble out the large hole and a multi-size leather punch to make the little holes for the screws and signal port.

no!!

no none of mine has that lil foam oil filter thats part number 63 the o ring is 64 so that the only o ring is the one on the oil pickup line where it inserts in the case? i wonder if you need the oil filte dognut or not im sure some one will know guess i better order a few of those also!!! a paper punch that would work real good bout perfect size also ...

Paper punch is too big for the screw holes. I got my leather punch with the multi size wheel at a craft/hobby store.

The foam donut being absent won't cause any leaks but will prevent wood chips from stopping up your check valve(s). I think a cotton ball would serve the same purpose.

Mark's advice helped me get my S25CVA running and it's an real animal for a tophandle.

I bet it is a real animal i want one of those some day! yea the hole on mine is way bigger looks like my indent is deeper on my housing also i went out to my garage and tried to fit an oring in it the indent is so deep the oring would not touch any thing and my oil pick up on both mine has been aluminum not brass...so did you just reuse your old gasket on the back of your oil housing? did it seal good?great pics too !!! seems there are little differences?im really wondering if the oring is to flat on the oil pick up... im betting thats my problem.... i hope LOLdid you buy and oring or did you use one from a kit?

Yup, got lucky, slathered on some Permatex 300 I've had forever bolted it in place using the drill bit to keep the signal port lined up.

The pics are blurry because I havn't figured out the macro setting on my camera.

Use a piece of foam, cotton will spread threads all over, and stop up the plunger. Small engine air filter, cut to size, use a tie strap to fasten it to the hose.

I think he means the lil round filter it shows bein in pump body i was thinking if i even put one back in i would use foam like carb foam but i dont think i will even put one back in ... i have the metal weight filter on the end of the hose in the oil well....right now i just wanna get it to stop leaking from behind the oil pump body.... when i get my gaskets in im going to try it again with a new o ring on the oil pick up where it inserts into the case i think that and a brand new gasket will do it if not like i said i will use it as parts...and move on to another one...

The one I am looking at has the o ring behind the pump in the body of the saw. If you have some gasket material you could make the new gasket. It is also possible to over tighten the fitting on the discharge line and crack the pump were it threads in to. Probably not much help hope you get it fixed.

Poulan S25da, CVA etc.

As often as I use these saws I just can't get over how much grunt they have. Forn 38cc they certainly are powerful. I wonder if its the horizontal piston setup or something else that contributes to their performance. Now I have opened up the mufflers by enlarging the holes and removing the spark screen but they still are very strong saws. I've got three now and think that's enough.

Oh..Forgot to ask you Dave, Where did ya find the wrap for the handle? That looks like a Poulan issue wrap? Very Nice

Gregg,

Ordered it from Bailey's Chainsaw with Poulan PN 530069171, they ordered it straight from Poulan and drop shipped it. It was b#### to get on but was well worth it. All the installation instuctions are from Poulan as well.

Hey Greg, can you make some 3400 clutch cover decals????

Couple real nice looking saws Dave. Have you used the 4000 much yet? If so. whats your opinion of it? Just curious, cause the 4000 is my favorite all around saw.

Gregg,

The 4000 is a great saw, I find myself using it with 8" logs all the way up to what ever I can bury the bar into. That little Micro will cut wood very fast, but you have to steer the saw if you know what I mean, the 4000 I just drop it on log and guide it, and it does the work for ya, and will eat wood all day, I also like that Oregon 72LGX chain, just seems effortless.

Hey Stub, the 8500 looks like the 5200 but with a black starter housing and mabe a different air filter housing.

If your looking at 50-65cc saws, a 3400-4000 would suit ya just fine. Heck a 3300 54cc saw is a nice piece too.

The saws look nice. That is a clean 4000. Did you say Gregg made the decals they do look good. I guess I need to talk to Gregg I need decals for a 3400 also. I am also going to need a set for a 5400 if I can find enough parts to put it back together.

That is one saw Poulan didn't WANT to drop, it was a Fav Arborist saw, last ones made had a belt ring on them! great saw two fatal flaws.

1 couldn't get it to pass CARB standards

2 very expensive to build as mostly hand built.

they kept it alive as long as they could while trying to come up with a good replacement.

over the years they sure private labled lots of them for other companies!
