My 4000 with 2/3 the decals from OhioGregg (I apologize for the size of the pictures)

Nice job! Have you had a chance to run the 4000 much yet?
No need to apologize for the picture size..LOL Bigger the better

Gregg,

A little, as the one day I got out with it the bar was a dud, hence the new one. Had a wide groove, so anything over about 6" was out of reach. I hate fighting with them, and I have a few saws to choose from. This one was owned by a guy that made furniture from pine, and the last time it had seen an air nozzle there was paint coming out, as in lime green paint. I don't think he bought it new, but he had several saws, and all were coated in pine mung. IIRC, at the time, I had 4 saws between 56 and 64 cc; now I have 6 if you include the 3450 at 55?.

I started on my Thirty-O-Six today, until I ran out of heat.:eek2: The thing is in real good original condition. Found it still had an original Poulan 3014 spark plug in it. This is the first I have seen one! I have half a notion to put it back in. Don't know how rare these are anymore. I never seen one, so figured there are others who havn't also.LOL

Gregg,

I like collection those old artifacts, Gregg. I have a couple of the large plugs from the old sand cast saws.

I got one too

Hey Gregg I forgot about those I found one in one of my saws as well. Thing is it has orange overspray on it.

Bet you will never guess what it came out of. Nope not a Dayton, how about my Wright 100 blade saw?

I would certainly think it would love to come along to a GTG. Along with about a dozen other classic old Poulans! :msp_thumbsup:
I'm betting you can get quite a few of them in a Super Duty with an 8' bed.:msp_drool:

Gregg,

Steve, You can have it if you want it. If I saved it, it would probably get lost..LOL Besides I would only have a collection on one.
Gregg,

Would appreciate it, Gregg. Hang on to it till the GTG and if you still feel that way I'll relieve you of the clutter. Speaking of which, have you nailed the date of the GTG?

Sounds like a good idea.;) I guess May 15 & 16th. as the way I see it right now. Had picked the weekend before, but later realized that was mothers day weekend. Lord knows we don't want conflict with the mothers, wives, significant others etc.:msp_ohmy: I think you said that weekend was the Heritage Festival also. So unless something drastically has to change, will figure on 15th & 16th.

Gregg,

hoboing

Gregg,
I might just hobo a ride up there with 67 mustang if y'all don't care. If he'll let me I might bring an old Poolan or two. Is this a "Poulan specific" GTG? The dates are the next weekend after our local Heritage Fest and I might not have any that'll run after that except maybe some Poulans!

Porting a 3700??

I recently purchased Poulan 3700 (chrome cylinder, thin rings) on eBay. Came with a 24 inch bar. Reason for purchase was I wanted a saw for failing larger diameter trees (have saws with 18 inch and 20 inch bars).

After reading many posts on how to modify/enhance our performance I did a muffler modification and took .020" off of the cylinder base with no base gasket. Squish measures.025"

Saw went from 125 PSI to 185 PSI.

Saw runs really well, but I still would like to squeeze more power out of it if I can.

The main question I have is there anything to be gained by modifying the ports?

If so I would very much like to hear from anyone who has done poor modifications on the 3700, i.e. what you did and results.

One thought that I have is that in removing the base gasket and taking .020" off of the base (squish is gone from .055" to .025"), would doing some work on the ports be beneficial to timing (intake/exhaust)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Really a great forum.:msp_thumbup:
