I'd like you all to see my new Poulan.

But I don't have pictures of my Wild Thing that fit this place, so you'll have to wait.

Thats three months rent, for heavens sake!

There is obviously some serious hard core Poulan junkies besides US out there.:dizzy: Thats mind boggling what that A -700 brought!
Gregg,

All this time and I been looking for the wrong junk. Don't even want to imagine that I overlooked one of those somewhere why eying a S25. Now I know what I'm looking for. If I'd known that, the A900 I was puttering with a while back might have had a harder time finding it's way home. :hmm3grin2orange:

It can be returned to Gibsonville. But the trunk of that two-tone '94 Camry won't hold sufficient quantities of dead presidents.
He has to get paid for the saw. We've seen that be a problem in the past.

my 295 and my 2000

OK, I had gotten that 295 running just fine, used it three or four times out cutting wood, no problems. So the other day I was clearing out my brush pile, chunking out some larger sections for firewood, then noodled some small crotches I had. Thing started running hot, and the chain was still sharp, throwing nice noodles, it was not dull, it was running fine, no different sounds or anything, just started running hot enough to notice.

So I went to shut it off as soon as I noticed it was getting hot, the switch didn't work, had to choke it to stop it (now it is finally sounding real bad), it started dieseling on me. WTH? Then I take it apart, both sides, clutch and flywheel/starter show massive abrasion and/or melted plastic. Like all of a sudden they didn't fit "square" anymore, like the round part was off center a 1/4 inch on both sides. And the cover over the muffler, that shows some melting now. Obviously got real hot all over.

Dang I wish these things had auto heat sensor shutoff....

Anyway, I looked at the piston, not roached, it's still took apart on the bench. I doubt the starter will work now. Awaiting learned replies....oh, I tried grabbing the crank from both sides to see if there was a lot of flex or anything, nothing noticeable, but that's all I can figure is the crank is bent and it wobbled while running? Or what? The plastic pieces certainly appeared to fit perfectly before with no wear on them. Now there's a layer of melted plastic on the clutch drum, along with damage on the starter side. Looks nasty. Oh well, my first CAD attempts, got some work from it anyway....

OK, the little 2000, got that running good, but it won't oil the bar. What is the most likely piece to be worn out, or do these things just usually need a good cleaning, all the oiler parts? It's real different in the IPL drawing from the previous poulan and the little husky I worked on before.

thanks in advance!

Poulans

Well boys I recently got 7 saws. 4 poulans in the haul. One later model s25da, 2 3400s and a dayton 245a. I really wNted a later model s25 and this one fit the bill. It's the newt style like my dads solid state ign and good compression. Should just need a cleaning and fuel system work. The 2 3400s ran on a prime, both 120 psi both nice Windsor bars. One is a low hour saw in real nice shape. The Dayton I haven't gotten yet but I'm pretty excited about it. Will post pics later. Also I called my shop about rings for my cva and they are nla from poulan

Poulan 3700 with D196 Bar ?

Poulan 3700 with D196 Bar ?
Maybe this has been covered before but I'm still pretty new at this. I purchased a 3700 parts saw for an upgrade for my 3400 (which now runs fantastic with the bigger bore!). My question is about bars and mounts. The 3700 had "s" spacers and a Total Super Bar #492PV4 J2058 3/8 70E on it. When I measure the slot it comes out to 7/16 or .4375 or 11.11mm. I do not see any bar description showing this size slot. Are the bar slots in the bar descriptions showing the bar stud measurement and not the actual bar slot? I'm using an old Oregon catalog for bar reference.

Any replies would be helpful. I feel a case of CAD or OCD (obsessive chainsaw disorder?) coming on.

Thanks, Phil

Oiler holes? Any slop in it when mounted? 3400/3700 use the same bar. If its a 3.4/3.7, then its the D176 mount; if its a 3400/3700 then it should be a A041 mount. What you have doesn't really matter if it works. Replacement bars from some shops is a this will work deal, not a this is what it needs. Again, fine, if it works. I don't know for sure, but the numbers you gave tell me its a 20" bar, .058 gauge.
Almost sounds like a Stihl mount, with an adapter for a Husky, to make it an 095 mount, which is an A041 with oiler holes. A041 oils through the adjustment holes.
Pics?

Say what!!!????

First of all the correct bar mount for the saw is Oregon reference D176. Period. However other bar mounts will work. The A041 is not one of them as it is for 3/8 low pro chain and is found on many of the smaller Poulans.

No idea what that Total bar mount equates to, Phil. Acres at Chain Saw Collectors Corner Bar Mount Patterns
has bar numbers and picture of the slots & oil holes of several major bar manufacturers but doesn't list Total. That is a weird size if it measures 7/16". It's common to use the "S" spacer for bar mounts that will work with a larger slot.

if anyone doesn't already have this, here are cross references between saw models and the tillotson p/n. i was looking for a rebuild for my 361 and found this.
Tillotson Cross Reference

Interestingly all the Poulans listed (except the micro) use repair kit RK-23HS, and gasket kit DG-5HS/T.

Thanks for posting that up. It has some errors though. The Homelite C5/C91 saws are listed as running an HL141 (which is mostly correct), but states that the carb kits needed as RK-23HS and DG-5HS/T (just like all the Homelites in the listings above it that have HS carbs). The correct kits are RK-88HL and DG-5HL. I think somebody at Tillotson was tired from typing RK-23HS and DG-5HS/T so many times. There isn't any listings for the Poulan or McCulloch saws that ran Tillotson HL's either.

330, 365, 380, 3350, 3450, 3500, 3600, 3650, 3750 all take an A041 mount. All run the grown up 3/8's chain. I was mistaken in my answer above, 3400/3700 do take a D176. That said, a D196 mount with a spacer, a D276 mount with an oiler hole drilled will also work. Yes, the smaller Poulans as well as many other saws run the A041 will the low-pro chain. The millers on the site, as well as a few carvers, will tell that the chain can be interchanged with various degrees of success.

Pp295

Put a new oiler on a 295 today and it still leaks bad. The replacement oiler was 530014410 and was the white plastic one. Any other ides as to where this thing is pouring oil out? Gonna have to order a new tank hose I guess.
