Here's a deep, important technical question for you Poulan gurus...:msp_lol:

The red Craftsman 2.1A/Poulan 25DA that Mark sent me is missing the black rubber rear handle insert. The Poulan # I pulled from a 25DA IPL is 23368. The # for the grip insert that I get from the Sears parts website for my saw (358.350940) is 23493 (minus the 5300 Sears prefix). They list it as a manufacturer authorized substitue.............and want too much moolah for it.

Is the part in fact the same for both a 'regular' 25 series saw and the Sears versions? I know there have been a few different versions of the 25 handles, with the Sears units possibly being unique. I've seen 'steeply curved' 25 handles, as well as the straighter CVA handles. The Sears handle seems similar to what I've seen on some late S25DA's and the PP black/yellow versions of these saws. The curve of the handle could affect the profile of the ends of the grip insert, as well as its length and other dimentions. Or...................it could be the same dang part for all of 'em. It's a minor thing really. I can of course run the saw without a grip insert until I get one from a parted saw on feebay or Scott or somewhere...

I have a Craftsman 358.355061 power head for parts. Take a look at this:

If it is the rubber insert you are needing, you are welcome to it (the rubber thingy).

You just never know about that Mark character. :ices_rofl:
Carl.

And you never know what that Carl dude is going to come up with. :hmm3grin2orange:

He has a 25 series saw, not a micro based saw like you posted. ;)

I have been really busy around here so my attention to detail probably wasnt what it should have been lately.

I just wanted to get that saw out to Aaron and never noticed the grip insert missing.

I will look to see if I have one when I get the chance to did out that stuff and look.

Im not sure if the micro cva insert is the same as the S25 insert. Might be, but I never owned a micro cva. Plus that's a craftsman Micro cva soooo that adds another wrinkle haha. But that's the fun of finding Poulan parts!

Quick draw Mark! haha

Well boys I recently got 7 saws. 4 poulans in the haul. One later model s25da, 2 3400s and a dayton 245a. I really wNted a later model s25 and this one fit the bill. It's the newt style like my dads solid state ign and good compression. Should just need a cleaning and fuel system work. The 2 3400s ran on a prime, both 120 psi both nice Windsor bars. One is a low hour saw in real nice shape. The Dayton I haven't gotten yet but I'm pretty excited about it. Will post pics later. Also I called my shop about rings for my cva and they are nla from poulan

Man Joe, your on a tear. 7 saws. Great!

Mark,

Just got bearings, seals, thrust washers, and sprocket ordered for this old saw. Ordered from SEPW.com, always have good luck with them.

I think this one will be painted the PP yellow color, always did like that better than the lime green.

This is the saw that I've been gathering a bunch of NOS parts including a new jug, nearly new piston, oiler, antivibe isolators, and a slew of other stuff.

Barney glad to hear and can't wait for pictures to see how the yellow looks.

Heres the 3 Poulans I got, 2 3400s and the late model S25DA. Left to right the 3400 to the far left felt like it had good compression and showed 120 on the gauge, I just popped the muffler off and found light scoring on the left side of the piston. The center one is in great shape. A low hour one for sure. Both saws popped with a prime. Both have nice 16" windsor replaceable tip bars too.
The S25 is in great shape too. Its a later mode one with the SS ign, and the squared off top handle. I sent off a bunch of my S25s and I wanted this model/era for a while so it was a good find. I got the b/c with it too.

Good looking saws, Joe. When and if you pull the cylinders on the 3400's I've had good luck with compression by reversing the rings(top to bottom, etc and flipping them over). Because the rings have blunt ends you can flip them. Seems to renew compression somewhat.

I dont want to derail for creamsacles, but I would never pay $239 (price today for an ms211) for a 35cc saw. The only reason I got it was cause he threw it in for almost nothing with the Poulans.
Back to the Poulans!
I got one for you. I pulled the jug off my CVA tonight thinking the top ring was broken on the ex. port side. Butttt I found it had spun in the grove and was not broken! Where are the rings supposed to be? my IPL didnt show and I havent cleaned the crown to looks for marks. Good news is the rings are perfect as are the cyl walls and piston. Might clean up the ex port while its off...
Lousy pic but you can see where the top ring was and thats the exhaust side.

I had an S25CVA that didn't have ring pins and believe I staggered rings ends near the intake side of cylinder. However it was a while ago and I'm not totally sure. Senior moment. Hopefully someone who's done this will chime in.

Joe,

The 25's don't have ring end pins and the rings pretty much go where they want.
That is why the exhaust port has two bridges in it, so the ring end doesn't have enough room to drop into a port.

Mike

Bob and Mike, Thanks for the info!
Bob, it was a good week, still waiting on the Dayton. The beat up 3400 has some scoring on the piston, will have to pull the jug to see the extent. It did show 120 psi tho.
Mike, That makes sense about the rings and bridged port. I dont know if I ran it with the ring end in the port, but that p/c looks perfect. Im gonna swap the rings top to bottom like Bob said and clean up the ex. port while I have it off. Rings look like new.

Some new additions

I was in Pennsylvania last week and scored some saws (see http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/166593.htm).

First up was a Poulan 45 that I got with a group of saws. I have not done anything with it as of yet.

As I was preparing to leave, I had a fellow respond to my CL ad. He met me off I-83 in York and delivered this Model 31 to me. The saw runs, but I need to do a handlebar repair as it is currently held on by a wingnut!

Poulan31001.jpg

While I had the camera out, I decided to take a picture of the 31, 43, 45 and 63.

I have added enough new Poulans I will need to take another family portrait...

I wonder who poked holes in the air filter? Nice saws by the way. Especially the 63.

yea when it comes out of the tank from the duckbill it goes right under the kill switch but send me your e-mail and i'll send you the manual for it

Need guidance on a Poulan Pro 415

I need some help/advice, I am going to look at a 415 next week. The guy wants 150 for it and it is very used but looks ok in the pics, Claims it runs great. I don't know why he wants to sell it and I am looking at a 3hr drive to look at it.

What I want to know is does the price sound right? And what are my options for mods while keeping it reliable for a work saw? And how heavy is this thing?
