Nice job Ron. Like Mark said, that saw sounds great.
I got a big day thursday. I got a call from an old timer who lives a few towns over. He said hes got over 50 saws for sale and a lot of other older power equipment for sale. The best part. Most of the saws are GREEEEEEN..and not plastic fantastic either. Ill have updates Thursday night.

Joe, thing that little asian truck can hold all 50 saws?.

Give it a try! We will be waiting.

What the heck? You made me look all over ebay and I cannot find one that sold for $40!

Too bad I did look though as a Allis Chalmers 295 just sold recently for a fair price. It was missing the Power sharp cover and I just happen to have a nice one for it!

Just pulling everyone's chain (but made you look :hmm3grin2orange:). I was watching that one as well as the Dayton 306 that ended yesterday.

Guido, Mike, Mark, Aaron, Ron I cant wait to check this place out. Im going with my buddy Deano and his older buddy Marcel (hes in his 80's and still work on saws and fixes equipment!) Im hoping for mostly Poulans. Maybe this old timer has all the 4200 and 5200 saws you guys are always flashing around but I cant find!
Aaron,
If he has some other good saws ill make a little room for them too!
Mark,
If I cant get them in them into my asian truck Ill have to borrow my dads dump truck, but its not a Ford! I am looking at F-350s tho, as soon as this one is paid off.
Im gonna bring my camera and take some pics of this place sounds like hes got a barn full of stuff. As long as the price is fair Ill have some new additions!

:blob2: way to go Joe. Hope you find something you been looking for. Maybe a pile of pristine 306 top ends :hmm3grin2orange:
Good work Ron. Sounds like a killer.
To tell you the truth, I called the old timer here in my neck of the woods today. On the phone, he said he was looking right at a decent 245 and talked like he had piles of Poulan saws. 245s,306s, 3400s, 4200s... Well he wouldn't let me come over to look while his grandson was sleeping. So he says he'll dig some up to call him back in an hour or two. Called back and he says all he could find was 316s. I say, where is the 245 you were looking at awhile ago. Uhh, I made a mistake, that was a 316...

Yeah, ahhight den. Something turned him off. He wouldn't even let me look at the bone pile, let alone anything that resembled a running saw. :msp_confused:

Hey Joe, if you should happen to find a 8500 parts saw, don't forget me! I'm willing to pay good money for a piston...

I've ran into almost the exact same thing at least four times with old timers. Twice with guys that had answered my CL old saws/parts want ad, and twice with guys that had posted CL for sale ads of their own. After some talkin'.......they decided the didn't want to sell anything (and if they were selling, they removed their ads). I think that behavior is a sign of the "late stages" of CAD....:help:

PM on the way...

Or maybe they start to realize they may be able to sell them one by one for more $ since someone is all of the sudden interested in them. Like the gear never turned until you asked about them...

You may be on to something there Brian. I answered a for sale ad from a guy list a running Homelite C5 for something like $25. I could almost hear the gears starting to turn as we talked. He had some kind of tree business IIRC, and couldn't figure out why anyone would want an old heavy, noisey thing like that. Said he'd thought about throwing it away, as it'd been in a corner of his shop for years. It was like he was trying to make me think I didn't want to buy an old saw afterall. Eventualy, he just said "I'll call you back if I decide to sell it". I was thinking, "WTF.................you posted this thing for sale!". Never heard back from him. That was about 3 years ago.

Another time, a guy listed a nice looking Homelite Super E-Z Auto with an original case (pics were in the ad). While I was talking to him about getting his address so I could come see it, he changed his mind and decided to keep it afterall. Both guys pulled their ads shortly after. I watched the ebay listings closely for several weeks after each incident (thinking these guys would now try to get more money from saw nuts), and never saw either of those saw those saws listed. I've had a few more experiences similar to these over the last five or so years of 'active' saw collecting. Strange stuff....:msp_sad:

has anyone ever (successfully) removed the plastic locating dowels from a crank case half? I want to take pics of mixed and matched cases and need to pull the dowels to do s but I'm afraid to break them and if I use heat, to melt them?

Not sure if this will help or not but on my homelite 1020 build I removed the metal dowels in the case so I could use a xp1000/1020 case half with a c7 case half.
