Like Bob, (redunshee) said, its definitely a Poulan. The trick is to determine wich one, 3.4 or 3.7. If you look at a post or two ahead of yours, you will see a pic of a couple real nice 3.7's.

I'm not UP on the Craftsman model numbering system. A pretty sur way to tell is pull the muffler. The 3.4 version will most likely have a chromed piston with unplated cyl. The 3.7 will likely be just the opposite. with a slightly larger exhaust port. Most of those saws had decals on them. 3.4/16 or 3.7/18

Parts are interchangable with all of them, and with the Poulan versions.

Gregg,

Well it definitely does not have a chrome piston and the exhaust port looks pretty good size to me but I'll try to post pics later it has a 20" bar with replaceable nose on it also but I can not find any model number on it any where

Some pics make them look orange, some red. Even that one pic of Joe's excellent Craftsmans, they look orange. But another they look red. LOL

One other thing I noticed, Its probably an early version also. The small size screw mounts for the rear antivibe. The oil cap looks like early style to me also. In any case, it should make a good saw with a little work. They most always need new fuel lines, filters, carb kits etc. Maybe even sprocket.

Gregg,

Yea it runs with a couple pulls and mix squirted in the carb but will not pull fuel on it's own just not sure if I want to keep it and dump money in it or not I have a good 20" saw already so......

I finished my custom Farm Pro 3.7. Of course that saw doesnt exist. So I made it. I had the MM muffler on my 4000 but since the 4000 already has a decsent flowing muffler I put it on the 3.7. Next I found the elusive 4000 intake. So here it is. This is my favorite saw to use.

Sweeeeet!

"You done good".....we'd say around here.

Got an 8500 today!

I spent all afternoon yesterday at my property in the country and did not get back home until after 5:30. Shortly thereafter I checked Craigslist and saw and ad for 4 chainsaws listed. The description indicated a 8500 bow saw, 2 Husky 55's and a ProMac 610.

As there was a number listed, I called the owner and asked if he would sell the 8500 separately. He said he would consider doing so, so I asked if he could hold the saw for me. His location is 25 minuted from me (but on the way to my property) so he agreed to have his son meet me to look at them this morning.

In addition to the bow, the 8500 also came with a 24" bar and two additional (highly used) chains. One Husky 55 looked very nice, the other was actually a 66. After trying to get both his mother and father on the phone we were able to reach the dad. I struck a deal on all for of them and will probably sell the Mac and 66. Ran 3 tanks through the 55 today cutting up a nice white oak for my sister.

While I religiously look at CL for saws and had never seen these, the owner said this was the 3rd time they were listed and I was the first call.

First Time

Hi All: I am a first time poster, but have been reading for quite some time. This is a great thread, very useful and I have learned a lot.
My question is the value of a Poulan 5200. I have one, picked it up as a project but all it needed was a carb kit, fuel line and filter. I do not use it and so would like to sell it, preferably to someone who can appreciate it.
It runs well, has a good 24" bar and chain. Any suggestions?
Craigslist or E-bay? Thanks for your input.

I have seen them sell for anything from $50.00 up to $300.00.
It all depends on what kind of shape it's in and what it needs.
Craigslist is more of a place to find saws to me.
If you put it on there you will have to set the price and hassle with the no shows and hagglers and who knows what else.
E-bay is a good place to put it if you don't know the value as the buyers will tell you what it's worth.
The bids usually suffer a bit there because of the shipping costs and then you will lose a pretty hefty chunk too, in the fees.
I'd say some of the guys who are PMing you right now will give you a very fair price and without the hassle of the other avenues.

Now I've got to go.

I've got a PM to send!!!!!LOL

From a shed find today

Guy used to have a small engine shop and had everything stored..
came away with these two pullons :)
the 25 is a DA but the interesting thing is the original case..
the 4200 is kinda limp in the starter department :)
will have to work on that and see whats up.
the best part was the prices.. :)

Do any of you guys know who made this thing for Sears? I think Poulan makes most of the newer saws and this one isn't very old but it doesn't look like any Poulan that I have seen.

I think the group decided that is chinese built and about the same as the McCulloch that was bui;t about 3-5 years ago, something like Fein Shing ????????

Some great score guys! The red/orange saw, guidos 8500 and Rons 2 saw plan. Between the 3 of you ya pretty much have all the bases cover if you put them all together...

Only ONE thing missing Joe ???
I know,i havent said anything after your last few pix,i was being nice and waiting..after a couple of years just dropping your trademark like that,,well, just not the same..

Anyone have any reasonable suggestions to finding a replacement adjusting pin for my 361? The bolt and locking nut are COTS, so no issue there. Looking at this one, it is beefier than the standard adjusting pin which looks like it was just a stamped part. Or is that fine? They seem to have a lot of slop in them, but maybe no big deal.

Hey Guys I posted these pics in a thread I started "name this saw" and got it narrowed down to several answers but seems to be poulan/craftsman and figured one or all of you could tell me exactly what it is?

John told you in the other thread that he started that its probably a Dayton.

It could be a 3400 or a 3700.

Here is my Dayton just so you can see for yourself.

Nice find on the 8500.

Mike, Andrea, Nik and myself had a round table discussion Sat night about the differences between the 5200 and the 8500.

Still waiting for final confirmation on one item but then I think we will probably have all the info needed on that discussion. I will update soon.
