Yesterday I had some small stuff to cut at a job. Took me longer to figure out which saw to take. I took my 4000. While loading it in the truck i notice the safety tag on the hand guard. Along with the kickback warnings it says do not use saw 1 handed. Now i consider myself a strong guy. I tried picking this thing up one handed (the rear handle) and no way it was gonna happen. I have fractured my right wrist twice and then messed it up again in a hand truck incedent (delivering miller lite going down the ramp on a truck). Any He-man here who can do it? I mean hold it level. I have the 16'" bar on mine.

I can do it and my body is on the verge of disability!

Got all the parts. Seems my saw is Model 358.356100(3.7 with 18 in.bar).
Has rim sprocket assembly. Still am uneasy that clutch doesn't fully tighten all the way to end of crank threads like a spur sprocket does. Half inch of unused threads seems like alot to me. May have to breakdown and get a couple spur sprockets though the rim sprokets are almost new.
Bob

Any opinions. Can't believe no one has this same situation?

I took a pic Bob maybe this will help.

Do you have the right parts?

According to the IPL at the Sears.com/Parts Direct website, the 358.356100 is supposed to have the Oregon 48071 clutch drum with a rim sprocket. Its close cousin, the 358.356091 has an open spur sprocket. The OEM clutch drum doesn't seem to be available any more.

Even with a substitute clutch drum/sprocket installed, the threaded end of the crankshaft should be flush or almost flush with the clutch.

The Sears.com/PartsDirect.com site doesn't list a specific part no for the OEM rim sprocket. This site only cites 3/8 pitch and the #of splines for the rim sprocket. Type in Model 358.356100 and the IPLs for both 358.356100 and 358.356091 will load. The original printed owners manual and IPL should state all of the OEM part numbers for this saw.

This is Oregon's aftermarket rim/drum sprocket for the 3400/3700/4000. Note the part # is 28187X.

Side of the box shows saw model #'s it fits. Doesn't appear to be a great deal of offset in the drum.

Yep, that's the one and it is exactly like the original Poulan branded one I had off my 3700 the other day.

I'm out of town this week but when I get back I'm going to look at those sprockets closer for maker and model #. I know I have three of them , all of them from Craftsman saws. Something isn't right and I don't whta it is!

Since I haven't seen my Craftsman 3700 since 1993, I can't recall exactly what it had. I'm thinking that it was equipped with a rim drum and sprocket similar to the pic.
