Just got this.

What should I do with it? Feels like another rebuild is on the way. :msp_biggrin: Thanks Chris!

Poulan 4200 Throttle lock issues

Mark was kind enough to send me the throttle lock spring as my button is stuck. I removed the roll pin for the throttle lever but can't remove the lever as the throttle lock button is stuck all the way in and I can't release it to remove the throttle lever. I've tried for an hour to pry the button loose to no avail. Any suggestions? It appears I have to remove the throotle lever to get at the lock button but until I can pry it free so it pops out I'm stuck.

Bob, I'm kinda curious to the procedure myself. The throttle lock button on my 5200 doesn't catch right. Feels like its just wore out. I have a new rear handle/tank assembly for it, but want to wait till this summer to go over the saw and try to repaint it. And put the new assembly in then.:)

Bob, you need to stick a screwdriver in from the front opening of the handle near where the throttle linkage hooks to and push that throttle lock pin back to the left side of the handle.

You dont really need to remove the throttle trigger at all.

Its alot easier to do when the handle is off the saw though.

Yea, I figured I needed to do that but as hard as I try its stuck real good. I'll keep on trying and as a last resort remove the tank assembly.

Those with a blast cabinet, need a little help. Tractor Supply has a 50# drum of glass bead media in #80 grit. Has anyone ever used any of this and is this about the right grit for blasting saws? I don't want someting too agressive or to fine.

Help if you can.

Sorry never used that. I use silica sand from the lumber yard with low air pressure.

That glass bead might be the ticket though.

Thanks to a couple members of this fine group I got to run several poulans this past weekend. I just can't decide which one I liked best. I did learn that a 5200 with a 30" bar will find dirt pretty quick when your not use to it, and I think Mike had just sharpend it. As nice as the 5200, the 4200, the 245, and the other 5200 were, I think I like the pp475 the best. I hope yall(that means you guys) have as much fun at the poulan gtg as all us rednecks(that means southern gentlemen)had in Kentucky this past weekend.

I have black slag in mine and hate it because it makes you real dirty. Glass beads were in the one at work, that is the way to go but 80 grit might be too aggressive.

It was a damned fine GTG without a doubt!!
Good to see you again Randy. Next year you need to bring a few samples from your work!!!LOL
Don't fret over that chain it was the worst mangled chain I've ever seen when I bought that saw and it needs a few more sharpenings to get past the bad spots. That just gave me a reason to work on it some more.
Did you get to run my PP415?
It is a little heavy but I really like that saw. It's the little brother to the 475 that Mark had down there.

Looking forward to next year already!

Mike

I was going to ask you how you liked the 475 in the big stuff. I was quite surprised and disapointed in it in the cant race.

When cleaning it up yesterday I found out why, that chain on it was a mess as well. I had forgot that I had used it before and didnt resharpen it.

Just didnt have enought prep time for this one and wanted to bring the 71-A as well but didnt have the right chain for the 21" roller bar on it.

Thanks to Jeremy, I do now have the right one! I guess it will make the Poulan GTG with that 8 tooth, .404 and 21" roller now!

I missed out on the 415. I hope to try it next time. I may even try to run some of those orange and white saws next year since I ran all the good brands this time. I may have to go back and cut somebody's firewood because my cookie cutting tree is about gone. Maybe I can run some of those creamsicles then.

Gregg,

Well Gregg, I learned a lot and the first was to read Mark's instructions thoroughly. There is a small roll pin on the throttle button that I didn't see. So I removed the large one by the throttle. I should have been alerted when Mark said he removed the rollpin using a nail. Mistake #1. Mistake #2 was losing the small rollpin and having to sand a rivet to fit the rollpin hole. Also I found that the spring on the button was either jury rigged or broke as it was half the length of the OEM one. Reinstalled new spring, button cover and rollpin and it works fine. Now just have to replace throttle trigger and rollpin for the trigger. Whew!
