hey - can't find anything at poulan.com... does anyone have IPL/info on the xx (model 20)? mine's missing the flywheel for some reason. The starter spring looks sproinged as well. all else looks good. I'm hoping the flywheel is common with some other models.

Here is the IPL. I may have a flywheel, I would have to check. The starter springs show up on ebay quite often.

I think it's unique to that model. The XX doesn't share much with the other small Poulans. I have the IPL's on my home computer. At work now...

FWIW....These are neat little saws. Well built (better than the micro's that came later IMHO), and they're pretty strong for the displacement. They're handy too. The "center pull" starter setup works surprisingly well. You best bet is to scare up a parts saw. Only thing I don't like about them is the oiler designs ( both the auto and manual). Kind of a letdown compared to the restof the saw...

...questions like the one you just asked. J/K my friend. If it turns out that it's "only" a 245 instead of a 306 (lower number means it's not as good), then I'll be a true friend and dispose of it for you. What a guy eh?:jester:

Aaron, you are a true and dear friend.:bang:

It's a 306, I talked to the guy today, he's supposed to bring it over some evening. I don't know if I'll send it to you, but I will show you a pic.

I got a line on four XL-1's too, so I'll see what I can come up with for P/C's.

Feeling the love Chris. Glad you're getting that 306. I'll settle for pics if I can't have the saw.:jester:

Grab them XL-1's.

Muffler help

I have a poulan pro 4620. The muffler came apart and fell off. I've seen where some have talked about a muffler mod. My question is: What muffler should I buy, and what do I do to modify it? Thanks for your help.

Without looking it up I seem to think that about 1978-79 was when it was made to.

You need a piece of 3/16"ID x 5/16"OD line from the tank to the carb and a 1/8"ID x 3/16"OD for the in tank line. The .117ID x .211OD works well for the in tank line as well. It needs to come from the fuel fitting behind the center stud and then around to the right front corner in front of the center stud.

530019005 is the part # for the new tank gasket that you might need and the carb kit is a RK-23HS.

Thanks for the info Mark. Will pick them up, and see what happens.

You can use a muffler from a 2775, 2900 and PP 295. Some individuals cut a hole in the side of the muffler and weld a pipe to it. Others w/o welding skills, simply open the baffles and drill one or two holes in the front of the muffler. Rule of thumb I use is to not have the holes exceed 90% of the exhaust port of the cylinder.

somethin' happened to my first reply... dunno.

I did find the starter spring on the 'bay - I can't believe anyone has parts for the thing. It doesn't really seem like something that someone would have on their 'keeper' list.

Mark - if you happen to stumble upon the flywheel and want to sell it, shoot me a PM. No hurry - don't make a special trip through the pile o' parts. I'm a bit worried as to WHY it is missing the flywheel... maybe they were trying to repair the starter assm and just put it back together w/o the flywheel. I hope that's all.

It is a cool little saw though.

In praise of the S25DA.....

Just finished getting my S25 all back together (Thanks Mike for the Piston & Rings) and during the course of this, I was impressed by the rugged yet simple design of the saw.

Anyone that owns one...already knows it is a powerful saw (for its size and weight), but until you take one apart its hard to appreciate the engineering involved.

One thing is plain, it was designed to withstand some rugged use (if not abuse). I replaced my fuel tank gasket (not that the old one was leaking) and noticed the tank was a full 3/16" thick.

All of the castings are well supported/reinforced and designed to be somewhat modular.

Its hard to believe they sold for what they did "back in the day".

They were a tremendous value then.... and an even better value today...since they can be found at garage sales, etc...for a fraction of the cost of a new (comparable) saw.

Its an easy saw to love.

Flint.

I would like to find a piston for the one I have under the bench.
