Got my 295 in the mail today! that guy really packed it well! he was one of the best packing jobs yet everything on it was great tuned perfect also and it was clean!!!! im used to cleaning them and tune the carb LOL! And i found another poulan wild thing! 2375 le now i have twins! guy said it wouldnt start but i was able to get it to start and run pretty well just cleaned it will redo the lines and what not soon they look original! Hot dam A good day so far!View attachment 192303View attachment 192304

I just got back in from the barn and putting a fuel line on the 2775, and it runs again. I know it's a "throw away" saw, but parts are cheap and readily available, so what the heck. I'm glad to have it back even if it's underpowered. I've cut a lot of wood with it over the last few years. It can't keep up with the Mac 3420, but then it uses an awful lot less fuel too. And the clouds of smoke are smaller.

As a matter of fact, at this moment all 5 saws are running and sharp. I guess this means someone else's saw has to break, as the world must remain balanced!

This is the "3700?" I posted about earlier with sloppy bearing. Both saws have this same issue. This seams odd to me that both have bad bearing but the seals are shot.

you're right

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any of those saws had one. Many, like yours, just had the hand guard. I've got two or three of them that don't even have that.

no indeed you're right.
they dont have a chainbrake to start with.
on what fuel mixture do you let them run?
the seller said 1:25 liters, but my chainsaw dealer adviced 1:40 liters

A few fellows here have Micros and XXV's with brakes. Maybe they were added by the dealer after the fact. Some of those saws had to have been sold with brakes however. They were for sure in Canada. The Poulan Pro version of the XXV was sold with a brake.

I'd like to see a pic of a XXV with a brake..I've never seen one.

See what you mean, though I don't know how much, if any, play is acceptable. Unusual to have two saws like that but it will be a good Fall project, if you decide to replace the bearings. I might run one the way it is and see what happens.

Micro brake

This is what the brake on the little Poulans looks like. This is a rebadged one (Partner). Lots of the Poulans have brakes here in OZ.

Poulan 4900 crank replacement - thanks Mark!

Modified Mark very generously sent me a new crank for my 4900, which had sheared its crank near the end on the clutch side. Firstly it needed a full pull down. Bearings were like new.

Mark's crank is like new too!

Crank and gasket in place and ready for reassembly.

Coming together - need to trim the gasket. That rod looks good.

Piston fitted.

Barrel and reed valve assembly fitted.

Poulan 4900

Thanks for sending me the oil pump seal Mark, bugger to fit though.

Something to thread a clutch on now!

P7310873.jpg

Tank fitted - all the AV rubber in perfect condition. Carb on and linkages attached. Brand new fuel line - just in case. Boy these Poulans are good to work on.

Clutch now goes on!

Nearly ready. She is has been a hard working old girl but I bet she still has some left.

All I need now is a new on/off switch and it is finished. Too dark to get her running tonight. Next weekend if the weather is OK we will go wood cutting - 26" Windsor bar should be OK for some red gum I have in mind. You gotta love those old Poulans. Thanks again Mark!

Great job on the 4900 Nardoo:clap:

And Yes, Mark deserves a nice cold Miller High Life for supplying the crank!!!
I know exactly what you mean, about the seal in that oiler. I rebuilt my 5200 this spring. Rings, seals, gaskets etc. The seal on the oiler gave me fits, before I got that finished..LOL Other than that seal, I think this series of Poulan saws are the easiest to work on.

Gregg,

Shipping would be killer, he is in The Netherlands.

Hmm... Maybe that would give me the excuse I need to visit my family's roots. My surname along with my grandfather came over from the Netherlands.

I can just see explaining that to the family :) "Yea, I gotta go see a man about a saw, wanna come? Is your passport still good?"
