I see your sporting a huqvarna bar and chain on that blue 4000. is it a 325 pitch 50 gauge? did you have to change anything or was it a direct bolt up?

Its a large mount Husky bar. Came on my 385xp. Its .58 ga. 3/8. I used some small spring type spacers since the bar slot is larger dia. than the Poulan. For some reason, on this saw the drive link count worked out, but just barely. Its pretty much out at the end of adjustment. I use the same style Husky bar on my 5200. But had to have a slightly shorter chain made to make it work.

used the 245A for some bucking and to cut a hole in the middle of this round for the campfire.

Had a burst of energy early this morning. That was short lived, however. LOL Was still very hot for that kind of work. I wanted to use my 4200, havn't ran that saw yet. Thought this Oak would be a good test for it. The saw ran great! But, its not oiling,:( so will have to dig into that. So only made a couple cuts with it. Old Blue had to take over and take care of it!! LOL

I sweat my old guy, out of shape, fat butt off I tell ya. But, got it quartered with mean old mister sledge & wedge. Its gonna half to cool off some, before I work the wood that hard again. I might pick on some Ash trees next, hopefully won't have to quarter them to lift them.:dizzy:

Gregg,

If those pics are of today I admire you for being able to get out and do this kind of work in this heat. I assume you have about the same weather as we do.

Gregg,

Coming from the guy with the bad back! I tell ya I love cutting! The other stuff is 'collateral damage' to me and I happily do it. But I did learn to work smarter ... the trailer I primarily use has a beaver tail and I just roll the rounds up there. The Timer Wolf splitter has a 500# lift capacity, so no worries.

Gregg,

I did the same on my 3.7. It has the Husky chain on it and like you, its close to maxed out but works fine.

Gregg, I'm glad to hear you had a burst of energy this morning because I sure as hell didn't!

Nice load of wood there, I thought you had a loader tractor? That would help us old guys wouldnt it? Don't worry about the 4200 oiler, there easy to get to and its probably not much, just a split line or something. You will get it.

Nice load BTW, that deserves a couple High Lifes!

I came across a Craftsman 3.7 at the scrap yard last weekend and was wondering what years they had the built in sharpener in the clutch cover. I see where this one had it but it is no longer there.

I don't know the years, I'm guessing late seventies. I think you have a Roper, not a Poulan, and though some would send you packing, post a picture and then we'll know. We ain't elitist snobs, we're Poulan guys.

I couldn't sleep this morning. Got up at 4:00 am. So drank coffee till daylight, and thought it wasn't half bad at that time. But after making about 3 cuts..the sweat was rolling..LOL By the time I fished busting them up with a sledge, and many water and smoke breaks..:D I looked like I had jumped in a lake! Got warm in a hurry when that sun got up, humid to boot.

Only loader I have is bend over and use my hands!!! lol Im sure the oiler is something simple, at least I'm hoping.
The 5200 oils very well, so this surprised me. I don't think it was oiling at all. So seems like somethings not connected, even turned it all the way up.

Cold High Lifes Taste much better! But when sweating like that when working, good old water seems to be the ticket.

Yea Joe, I thought it odd that it worked ok on the 4000, at least with a 24" bar. But the 28" on my 5200, I had to have a couple chains made about 1 link less than the husky as I recall.

Gregg,

My "old blue" as I call it has had a rough life, but the thing just keeps going. :msp_ohmy:
When I bought it off of Ebay couple years ago, the owner had it listed as a 3400. But from the poor pics of it I thought it looked like it had the side outlet on the muffler, and the 4000 type dogs on the flywheel. It had no recoil, clutch cover, or top cover.
I got it cheap. Turns out to be a 4000. But the left side of the head where the intake manifold screws on, was busted clear out. I found some parts for it, except the air cleaner. Mounted the manifold & screw in place, Globed JB Weld all over it, and the thing has held to this day. LOL

About a year ago I was felling a tree with it that twisted and pinched the bar as it was coming down. I let go of the saw, and just backed away. :dizzy: Sure enough, the tree rolled right over the saw. Bent the bar, top handle, and caved in the right side some..and scuffed it up. I straitened things best I could. All its been through and the thing still runs great!!! I use it quite a bit. It handled the big oak this morning without a whimper.:msp_thumbup:

Gregg, I have to ask. Why not just cut the rounds into quarters with your saw??? That splitting is tough on a cool day. Must of been hell today.

LOL, I new someone was gonna say that! Mike is absolutely right! (big surprise there) Most Poulans I have tried, don't noodle well. Just won't clear the tight confines of the clutch covers. I thought about using the 385, it noodles very well. I do just that at times on the very big stubborn gnarly pieces.

I guess I'm old fashion, set in my ways too. Thats the way I learned to quarter stuff, so thats the way I do it. :msp_ohmy: Seems like a lot of waste too, when making all them noodling cuts. Kinda like using a chainsaw for milling. I milled a bunch of oak & cherry logs several years ago. I filled that trailer twice with saw dust. LOL
