Doesn't take a Stihlhead to do that. Takes anyone that wants a real saw, reguardless of brand. Modern Poulans, Macs, and Homelites are all an insult to the saws the same brands built a couple decades ago. IMHO, their only purpose is for those that truely can't afford a real saw, or only needs to trim a rose bush or two:taped::jester: In those cases, the will get the job done, for a while.

I like it,
I love it,
I want more of it.
Make it hurt Mr. Mike,
Make it hurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay Brad,

How bad does THIS hurt!
I remember someone up in Franklin Ohio running around like a rat on crack in a tin outhouse looking for a couple of different Wildthings to port and add to his collection!!!LOL

Grab you up an 021 and come on down. I'll take my lowly 4218 and we'll go to the woods.
Let's see who puts more wood in the stove and who has the lowest cost per rick (especially) including replacement parts! (gotcha)

As Mark pointed out I'm not saying the "Wildthing and its derivatives" are great saws, I'm only saying they are as good as, and cheaper than, the "Wildthings with different names" from ANY of the other manufacturers.
I just can't see paying $219.00 for a Wildthing just because it is orange and white, or all orange or red and black when the Poulan is $109.95 (or less)

You can say "Uncle" any time you are ready for me to stop!LOL

Mike

I cry Uncle

Had another 4018w m cylinder that I tried. Comp still 90. Cylinder
didn't look that Bad but I did see some fine scratches on the new piston.
Maybe both are bad. Can't see any other reason for such a low comp.

Lol...

yea it seems really well built but my god i was really getting frusterated with the throttle linkage.... seems like a real and i mean a real pain in the azz to change the fuel filter and such...i shoulda just blew it off and slapped it on ebay ... but i started cleaning it and takin it apart to see how it was built next thing i know it was all apart... I have to say im lovin the 25da saws and the micros more and more all the time.....its a neat lil saw has some compression to it for sure..... man it had me aggravated though LOL!

Nik, will you and Andre help Lisa liquidate my collection after I'm gone? She has no idea what each one's worth, or how to sell them. You and Andre can have your pick each for compensation for your troubles.:hmm3grin2orange:

Take the Poulans, brother, them other things will sell at the garage sale.

Is it a Mini Mac?

If not, then let me know if you want to sell it... I love the Macs.

Will pull the muffler on the '3100' and see what a piece of solder shows for bore size.

I'm going to turn down Mini Macs until I am absolutely sure there ain't any in the next haul.

 is an 021 actually as good as a Wildthing? I am impressed! A guy I work with has a small Stihl. The carb has no adjustments. He don't like that so much. It seems every coyuple of years it needs a new Carb.:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

Now you can call that creamsickle a sh itl... :ices_rofl::ices_rofl:

Any of you fellas happen to know what the bore size on a Poulan 401 is? Thanks for any help.

Hoss, I'm not completly certain on the 4ci 400/401 bore size. I know the 3.6ci saws were 1.785" and the 4.5ci saws were 2" so the 401 should fall somewhere in between as they all share the same stroke.

I'm guessing maybe it would be somewhere close to a 1.9" bore?

i got a couple of the 4ci saws here but dont have one apart.

What are you doing with a little 4 cube saw anyway, kind small for you aint it? :)

Mike, I expected more from you than that:) Actually, we're close to being on the same page. I won't own a 021 either. It still has the pretzel prone stamped rod of the MS180. I will say though that for the average home owner that only needs a cheap little saw, that they'd probably benefit from a Stihl dealer, something the WT owner won't have.

BTW, I still have one of those ported WTs:clap:

its a super pro mac 40 it has 2 piston rings id say its around the same size piston as the 38 cc poulans.... if not i bet its real close ....im not sure what i want to do with it i was pretty foul with it today but thats cause i could not for the life of me remember how the throttle linkage went back...

Brad, let me be the first to tell you that your full of it.

A 021 wont get much service done for much less then the price of a new one at the Stihl dealers around here.

The WT is not without service centers all over the place. Go to Poulan Pro.com and look at all the service centers around. Same thing goes for those though, about getting any service done for less then the price of a new one. That will really apply to any small plastic homeowner saw as well.

All the Stihl dealer support for there homeowner saws out of warranty useally consist of easy access to over priced bars, chains, sprockets, filters etc...

I has holding that fact in abeyance in case I had to get a bit more firm with you. It IS Sunday...remember?
And as Mark pointed out while I was napping there are still many Poulan dealers and service centers around.
Melvin is a servicing Poulan dealer.
I won't comment on the benefit of a Stihl dealer to a homeowner.

Mike

I enjoyed a nice 2 1/2 hour nap this afternoon myself!

And if you can do even minimal work on the saw yourself a WT makes even more sense. I've been consistently amazed at how reasonably priced the parts are. The only downside is the shipping costs, but even so it's not bad.

I thought the sprocket bearing was going on my Craftsman 350080, which is a Type 1 (I think) WT in gray. I made a clutch removal tool and pulled it apart, only to find the bearing is fine after 12 years. Mine has no chain brake, and it appears the side cover is distorting and the sprocket is rubbing. A cover with a brake is like $27 from Sears. I cleaned it up and it's OK for now, but I'll probably order a new cover & sprocket soon (after my wife forgets about all the bits I've been buying recently). You can get any little part from several different sources at low cost.
