I remember well when a 50cc saw with a 18" bar was all I owned. I cut whatever was on the ground in front of me with it, sometimes double cutting because the bar was too short. I never thought about needing another saw. Until I found ArboristSite.

yeah me too. only had a 50cc with a 16" bar for 25 years. now, dam cad.

Amazing what you can do before you find out you can't.

Well I won't say I didn't need a bigger saw. My time is better spent these days by using the right tool for the job. I have saws that range for the 91cc 066 down to the Dolmar PS-401 at around 40cc. It is easier to gather my firewood when I can choose the right weapon. :msp_tongue:

I have found it easier on both saw and operator if for some reason the saw isn't cutting right or well to set it aside until I have the time to look at it and use another saw. Many days got to be much longer than needed because of hasty fixes, some of which were not fixes of the real problem at all. I seem to get way more done much quicker with this approach. Then there is the unseen cost of those fixes, whether the chain or saw is sacrificed to get the job done, rather than finish with Unit 2 or 6, not to mention the wear and tear on unit one doing things, whether limbing or bucking, which its not meant to do. I had a bigger saw that threw its chain in protest it seemed whenever I tried to limb something with it.

And once all I had was an 18" WT, and while it did what I needed it's certainly much nicer having more options. But that's kind of obvious isn't it?

But what I wanted to know is if a cheap 46cc can usefully pull a 20" bar. Well, I already know it can be useful, because I did it for years. It isn't the optimum saw of course, but I'm curious how well it will function properly tuned and with a chain that can make it work. I'll find out.

I ran a 20" full 3/8ths full chisel skip on my ported Wildthing and it did amazingly well.
I think you will be okay if you let the saw eat at its pace.

I just picked up a loop of Oregon 20BPX, which I'm going up to the barn to put on. If the weather cooperates I'll find out how it does tomorrow.

Exactly. All I had for a long long time was an 023 with a 16'' bar. I'm not a stihl fan, but I'd like to see the pile of wood I cut with that saw. I ran the piss out of it for years, it never gave me a moments trouble, and it wasn't new when I got it.

Good little saws. I might buy another one for nostalgia.

Let me know how the BPX turns out, I have been thinking of trying some. I like the LPX full chisel very well so I think I would like the BPX also when I need a semi chisel at times.

Listen, I'm not up first hand with your 2775, never had one in here, but if its the same as the PP295 I do have some time on them and can tell you the 295 responds very, very well to a muffler mod and retune.

I did my buddys and put a 16" bar with 20lpx on it and it made it into a completly new saw. It runs really well for what it is and will out run your Mac no problem set up that way.

Not bashing your MAC so dont get mad, just making a point of how much that saw gained opened up, tuned and good chain.

real nice saw!

Tell Momma that one is a good one and to let loose of those purse strings some!

I just have too many and have to let some go to keep the CAD funds up. I also listed a Homie and that dang thing sold right off. ;)

I wish I would have used a different user name for my ebay account any more though, you bunch of gawkers and window shoppers wont let me get a good idea if any serious buyers are looking at them though. :hmm3grin2orange:

The 2775 appears to be the same 46cc saw as the 295, it's just green. Mine is a 2001 Type 1 saw - it does not have the metal heat shield under the muffler. The muffler has a pretty big opening stock (compared to the WT for example), and I only pried it open a bit. I'm keeping it at 20", mainly because I want to see just how well a 46cc saw can run it, but also because I have 2 other 18" saws and the 142 at 16".

The cinder block is also 20", and it cuts very well given its old Chinese chain (and I'm not offended at all over your opinion of it, nor do I think it's the world's greatest saw - it's a tool I like is all). It does the job, but it is a fuel pig, and that's an issue for me. The Poulans and the Husky are very thrifty.

I get a kick out of using an inexpensive saw that's light weight and efficient and effective. But I don't want to jump the gun on the 2775 - I know the 33SL doesn't make it work hard, so we'll see how it runs with the BPX.

Cool, the IPL for the type 1 2775 shows the good muffler on it, the 2 piece version. It will be very easy to mod that one. Ditch the spark screen and drill the diffuser holes out larger and cut a second opening in the front housing side (like I did the 141) and rock on. It will pull the 20" Ok long as its not buried all the time.

I hate to mention this to you but the Homelites are going really well on ebay as of late. I've sold several little XLs and Super 2 saws for decent prices. And by all means, another user name is a good idea. You can use APalmer Jr. if you wish, I'm using something else.

Can use change user name and retain your feedback rating?
