I think that Power Sharp system is only for power sharp chains. If it has anything else on it I wouldn't try to use it. Many, if not most, people changed them over to conventional chains.

It currently has a semi chizz safety Stihl chain on it that's been sharpened and dulled so horribly that I think the saw would cut better just running a plain bar.

I have no intentions on using the gay "power sharp" sharpener. I've just never seen it before. :)

they work OK

for about seven years or so the only chainsaw I owned was a used craftsman electric plug in with the power sharp. Kept the chain sharp and when I sold it it still had some life left in the stone and chanin.

The new one I have now on the oregon batt saw is even better. Complete dull throwing dust to back to chips in 3-4 seconds.

Not for everyone, but you can't say they don't work. In the cut when you first start out it feels way different, because the sharp edge is on top, but once down in the kerf they work fine.

I used to have a Mini-Mac saw that had a version of the Power Sharp on it. I didn't think it worked too well so I replaced the chain with a regular one. Maybe I didn't use it right because it's the first one I'd ever seen. I now own a Dayton 2z463 (245) that used to have that system on it but previous owner removed it.

More expensive

I don't think they cut quite as good as a regular chain, but close enough to work. The new system they redesigned it, basically from the ground (or grind..) up so it adjusts the raker height better along with improved geometry on the cutters. It is pretty radically different from regular ole cheap chain, and more expensive. Like I said, buying speed and convenience, dull to sharp pretty darn quick.

I think why most guys removed them and they never caught on back then is sticker shock on replacing the chain and stone at the same time. That powersharp system is for convenience, most HOs can't sharpen a chain. That removes the hassle as long as you pay for it up front. They think it is cheaper to go pay five bucks a sharpening at the sawshop and wind up paying the same money eventually anyway....

When I had mine I was more using it for a handy sawzall type tool then for firewood, but I did cut up around a cord of some free wood I got given after a storm with it. Worked OK. I was going to install a woodstove in my house at the time, (there was an old chimney that had been covered over) but moved before that happened, sold both the heater and the saw and just left the wood stacked in the backyard. I sold almost everything then, my back went out bad, got paralysis on my right arm, was going broke fast so I sold everything I didn't absolutely need going to go live in my camper, except for a few things I stuck in a storage locker. I eventually recovered enough to work some, then got a little better still, but never back to 100%, call it fifty percent with some bad days when it is..2%....

The Craftsman 3.7's - what's the displacement?? I know the 3800's are 61 - is this one something like 59....??

WoodChuck'r, Thought you might get a kick out seeing what that saw you just got, sold for new! :D $337.99

By the way. The red 3.7 Craftsman is the same saw as the 3700 Poulan, 61cc.

Gregg,

^^^^^^

That's farking sick Gregg! Lol I shoulda offered him another $30!!

I have a Poulan 3800 and that's 61cc's as well (or as far as I know). Was there any difference between the 3700's and 3800's....??

Generally speaking, NO. Except the 3800 & gray Craftsman's used a plated piston & un-plated bore, like the 3400.
The Red Craftsman's & 3700 Poulan's used a un-plated piston & chromed bore.

With that being said, You MIGHT run into one that doesn't follow the rule..LOL

Gregg,

so what's the problem? and why you letting it sit so long? is this sitting after it gets good and hot? really need more info to even begin to diagnose.

How does it run after it starts? Do you have to choke it to get it to restart? A little more detail may help.

Sorry to hear about your health problems..maybe in time it'll get better? I've had a little back trouble but not like yours. Mine is caused, I think, from weighing a bunch more than I should.

My 3400 kinda skips at full throttle. New plug and rebuilt carb. Do you think this s a spark or fuel issue? Maybe coil? Kind of stumped
Bob

I think those are electronic ignition so I suppose you could change the ignition module. Maybe you could borrow one if you don't have an extra..I'd hate to buy one just to check. Barring that, it must be in the carb or fuel lines or filter.

Try to richen up the L screw about 1/8 of a turn counter clockwise and then try it.

Under power when it skips?

Hard to tell without being there to check it, but if you have a known good coil I would try that before I did anything else.

Also remember the trouble I had with the 4000 doing that with the kill wire rubbing behind the flywheel.
