ive been watchin a very clean 2400 poulan on the bay it just shot up in price they dont say anything about it havin compression so im sorta leary these days to say the least LOL..ive never even held one thy look cool...are they about like a poulan 2300cva?????any one own one and used it looks like it would be ideal for trimin on the ground...

Lots of different saws are shooting up in price because of the Christmas season. Several people are buying chainsaws for Christmas presents...I wouldn't mind getting something like that for a gift!

Well I went ahead and removed two wires from two coils I had. One was bad and one good. I screwed up the good one as my extraction method used more muscle then brain. On the bad one, I used a heat gun to heat the area around the wire and eventually it popped off. I should have started on the bad one first. Inside the coil there is a metal spike roughly 1/4 in . long that the end of sparkplug wire fits over. That provides the connectivity. Now I have a good wire and no coil. When reinstalling the sparkplug wire, one should use some kind of sealant/ adhesive as it was evident that this was used originally. Not sure what the factory used but it is strong.
BTW- does anyone know how to test a coil to see if its good or bad? I mean before you install it and go thru the usual method.

If you have an OHM meter set it on resistance and check from the plug wire to the laminated parts, It should go over about 2/3 of the way on the scale to be good. If it goes all the way over it is shorted and no good. That does not mean that when it gets hot it will not fail. Tom

Lime green paint

A few days ago someone on here posted about buying lime green paint. I need some for a S25DA and I have checked the parts houses and Lowes and came up empty. If anyone knows where I can get a can please let me know. Thanks Tom

On the points coil it has two resistances, a primary and a secondary, like a transformer which a coil actually is. Tom has described how to check the secondary. The primary is the terminal where the points would connect to the coil, check it from that spot to ground. The primary has much less resistance than the secondary because of fewer windings in the primary, it should be less than 10 ohms or in that area with the points wire disconnected.

On a solid state ignition I'm not sure you can accurately check with a meter but you might compare them with a known good one and see if the resistance readings are similar.

Lol

Somebody has mentioned before that 1970 Molar Limelight Green is a near perfect match.

umm i thinks its sublime somthin or another mark is the one that posted it im sure if ya pm him he would shoot ya the codes.

So, what can I do to wake up my S25DAs? Could I mill the cylinder to increase compression? Or, is there a larger bore cylinder that would bolt up? Could I have the existing cylinder bored and re-chromed? I need to lay off the adult beverages.

they run pretty good as is...

i think they get it as is maybe open the muffle or slap a stack on it... hehehe i did it really pops and people look hahah! i need to get outta florida now my mom is gone man! move to some woods!!!! to bad i hate cold LOL...unless its in a beverage hahah! night ya all! i got a big job in the am ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzz

That's a given(open up the muffler). I would really like to know if a 46-50cc version is possible. Maybe a 295 carb to handle the extra displacement, matching the inlet port to the size of the carb, and enlarging the exhaust outlet to adjust for the displacement increase. Or, could I just remove the base gasket(or make a thinner one) and increase compression(or is it squish on 2 cycle engines?). I'm building a 600hp Mercedes motor right now, so I'm just horsepower hungry.

Before hotrodding, maybe ask yourself what ya gonna do with 698 old top handled saws....

re chroming is something like 2-300 bucks a cylinder, just from a real fast glance at some website and going NOTHANKS and clicking that page away....

I would think..the best way to hotrod those little saws for a lot more power easily is get them all clean and shiny and running good stock, sell them, and then buy a MUCH larger saw.....

...just sayin'

There are a lot of engine mod threads on the main chainsaw forum or over on the hotsaws forum. Ya, cylinder base milling, increasing squish, porting, changing the timing, increasing fuel and air flow, tuning the exhaust, etc. I guess what most everyone does is is the muffler mod. Opening it up, removing some metal here and there to get to around 80% or so of the exhaust port area. That is usually the most gains for the easiest work and no additional expense or exotic tools needed.

Or so it is rumored on the internets....the hotrod guys will be along shortly to tell you whatever else you might want to do
