pics of the 4000

here's some pics of the 4000. I have a few little videos to email if anyone wants them.

I love the old Daytons. They have classic appeal that screams "I'm fun to use"..lol

I have about 75' of .404 / .050 Oregon chain with the bumpers. If someone really needs a loop of .404 / .050 I should be able to set you up.

M Mark - I don't have a big enough shop at this time to try collecting more than one brand, I do have a few odd and ends about but I figured a Poulan needs to be with someone that can truy appreciate it. As Mitch can attest, the Poulan wasn't laughing in my shop...

Mark

It was good to know that at least you had a very polite Poulan there then. :hmm3grin2orange:

That was a very nice low used saw for sure and if I didnt already have a couple I would have been after that one.

I don't believe the Poulan would win any fights in Mark's shop but it sure can run faster:hmm3grin2orange: Although it isn't fair getting such a big head start.........the Poulan starting within three pulls and all.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself! Thanks for the saw!

I'm glad to see it end up at your place. Hard to find them in that shape much anymore.

When you use the .404 chain do you run a shorter bar also?

Scott

If running .404 instead of 3/8" on a strong old 74cc saw then I'd limit the longest bar to 24" instead of 28". Probably would be best with 21" and shorter when running .404 as Mark stated.

Here is my Dayton/Poulan 245SA when it was wearing the original 21" roller bar, .404 barracuda chain and 404x7 sprocket.

I have cut with this combo and belive me it pulls it very well. The 245 has pleanty of power for .404 up to reasonable bar sizes.

Probably do fine with it but IMO its not worth the trouble. We know they do great with 3/8's and 24-28" bars.

Here is what that saw runs today after It was totally rebuilt and changed to a 463A model. It wears a 24" power match with 72LP chain. When I say "A" model I'm meaning that it was changed from the early version with the auto decomp to the later version with the manual decomp. (it was the only new cyl I could find. )

This saw was one of the famous bad ebay deals that turned into a money dump project.

The seller thought he described it right but power washed the saw prior to listing it then let is set a month before he sold it. The seller did come straight on it and I got it basically for shipping but it got a new everything in the rebuild. NOS P/C, Rod, all bearings, gaskets, seals etc. Its basically a new saw but to me it was worth every cent and hour invested in it. There a great saw and a all time classic.

That sure is one good looking saw Mark. The one 245 I've seen in person here was a crunched/busted Dayton version with the PS and a 21" hardnose wearing .404 Barracuda. The yardsale seller wanted something like $150 for it (and wouldn't budge) back in 2007. No thanks. It kills me to see ebay and CL saw pics where the saw has obviously just been power washed or hosed down (beads of water on the saw, wet concrete underneath). STUPID.

No, never seen any .404-.050. .058 is common, .063 still the king in .404. .404 in general here is rare, I should have worded it that way. Big chain here is 3/8. Very rare to see a new saw bigger than 70cc. And 3/8 .063 is rarer yet.
Stihl dealer didn't have any .063 for Aandy (my C-5) and his new bar, just .058. "Well, that will work, right?"

Ah, no. Not today. Or tomorrow either...

That's funny that your Stihl dealer didn't have 3/8-.063, yet did have 3/8-.058. Around here, you're not going to find 3/8-.058 unless you go to a Husky dealer. Stihl dealers here have 3/8-.050 and 3/8-.063. My 031AV had a Stihl marked .063G hardnose and a loop of Stihl 33 chain. .404-.063 is available at the shops, but they rape you for each driver. I haven't checked in a while, but back when Oregon 27 was $.27/DL from Baileys, it was something like $.48/DL at my local shop. OUCH.

Thought you guys might want to see a good 3000 ripping up a piece of White Oak.

Now that will be enough of that schitt right there!!!
You are going to drive the prices on yet ANOTHER Poulan through the roof!!!!!!
Have you gone berserk?
Now go back and delete that before you give the Poulan name a good reputation!!!

What you think? Its a runner is it not?

Yup. Those 3000's and PP 305's ran real well. Did you leave muffler stock?

:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

I know the Modified in Mark's name refers to his racing days, But, these days, I think it would apply to his saws as well!

Job I hate to do

Well, today was the day I picked to put a starter spring in my 306A. Now that it's over I'm glad I didn't put it off until tomorrow. It took me about an hour to get the black grease and dirt off my hands, took me about three or four tries to get the spring in it and thought I had the rope anchored good enough in the spool but the first hard pull and out it came! So tomorrow I guess I'll try it all over again but this time I think I won't have to mess with the spring. It had an inch or two broken off the end so I repaired it, hope it never breaks again! I also have a longer rope this time..

it bites back some times!!!!

Yea, I've lost some bids cause I didn't want to put in the max that I'd be willing to spend. You would like to learn to paint and I'd like to learn to weld. Oh well.
