All I did was to remove the brass governor screw(accelerator screw) and cut a piece of pie plate that fits in the hole. I then replaced the governor screw with its internals. This blocks fuel from entering the governor thereby bypassing it. Seems like I've seen more malfunctioning governors than those that operate correctly.
Bob

bob, i'm being dense here. you got any links. not real familiar with governors on chainsaws since i've as yet to have to deal with one. would like to be prepared though when it happens. jerry

Decent isn't good running. I've seen some okay ones on Ebay go for a little over $100. Real cherry ones go for much more.

Thanks, looks like I will try to get it for $25-$35. If I have questions for you guys on this "new to me saw" I'll come here first. Thanks again

I started tear down of the 5200 and low and behold I find that it is a 5400. Saw is really dirty and without spark, I will clean it up and re gap and see what happens.

Was working on my PP 405. Rebuilt carb but I noticed it was bogging in the cut. It has a Walbro WJ carb and apparently it has a governor, though IPL calls it an accelerator pump. Removed it and found it was different from other governed carbs I've seen but I decide to block it off in the usual way. Saw now runs great with tons of power. In fact, I believe its stronger and faster than my 4000. Kind of surprised me seeing how the cc's are almost the same. Guess those Pioneer/Partner saws are real runners.
Bob

Bob, that thing they call a accelerator pump probably is! They had those plus a governor on them. Probably why the Pioneer guys I know always like to find the SDC carbs for them.

I'll be back, I just found a nice PP525 I have to go bid on.

question on 3.7

will the newer type air filters for a pp375 or 4000 fit on a craftsman 3.7 older style?????? they look like the are way better then the old ones...looks like it will be a direct bolt on does anyone know????

Yes the filter will fit but only with the correct cover as well.

so i would need a cover from one of those saws pp???? in your opinion would it make much difference???? they look like they are a better filter.....i liked the 3.7 so much im thinking i will use it more but it got kinda dusty from like 20 cuts....semms like it wouls let stuff pass in not having that rubber around it....is that right or should i not sweat it and clean it after every use????

Stub,

I don't sweat that stuff too much.
I ran a 3400 for YEARS...............HARD and they have what is arguably the worst filtration system ever devised.
The 3400 has an aluminum bore and chrome piston which is often looked down on by others.
Add to that the poor filtration and there SHOULD be NO 3400s still running if the "experts" knew what they were talking about...........................which, they obviously don't.

I agree, and while I don't have the time Mike has on a 3400 but Ive bought a lot and only seen 1 toasted, and that was a strait gas job. Ill add this, a sharp chain keeps air filters clean too.

I believe new 3400-3700 air filters are available from Stens/Oregon. Cheap insurance. Not sure if OEM filters are available from Poulan/Husky still. It is amazing how well the 3400's survive with such crappy filtration, plus the bare alluminum jugs. On other OPE engines, iron rings riding in an alluminum jug (with 'high silica content') has been a recipe for failure. Not with the Poulan 3400 and Micro saws though...

I may have to look for one one then as the saw is acting up again. Bogging at full throttle. Should of kept my mouth shut about how well it ran. You're saying they had both an accelerator pump and governor on the carb? I assumed the large brass plug was the culprit. Will have to look at the carb schematic and see if the small brass plug is the governor. Yea, that 525 went for way more than I expected. Guess it evens out in the end as I've sold some for less than I thought.
Bob

Bob, the acc pump can also be disabled. The one on my 655 is and the gov as well. I'm not sure the best way to do the acc pump though. You might want to contact Pioneer guy Jerry, or Arrowhead about that.

Glad you done well on the 525. I knew I wasn't going to let it go for what it was hanging around at.

After studying the carb schematic it appears I disabled the accelerator pump which is the large bras screw. Seems the small brass plug is the governor. I'll post on the Pioneer stickie to see if I did it correctly.
