Which bar pattern

Looking at bars for my PP405 I see it calls for an Oregon D009 mount. which I believe is a Husqvarna mount. I also see that an Oregon D196 mount is also recommended. Only diff. I can see is that the D009 has a round adjuster hole and the D196 has more of a rectangular hole. Will either one fit?

Actually the Pioneer and Pioneer based saws your speaking of called for a D007 mount. The tail of the D007 mount is almost identical to the D196/D096 Homelite mounts. Rectangle adjuster holes and 3/8"- 9.5mm slots in them, but the main difference between them are drive link counts for the chains used on them.

For example a most 24" D196 bars use a 81DL chain while a D007 mount would use a 84DL chain.

Now on to the D009 Husky mount, the tail is the same size, oil hole right etc but the slot is only 9mm so it will take just a bit of filing to fit the studs on the saw.

Far as I know the only bar being made by Oregon in a D007 mount is a 20" bar so dont bother looking too hard for one, just use a Homelite mount or big Husky. Heck you could use one of your Poulan D176 mount bars as well if you wanted to file the slot out that far. LOL

Thanks Mark. Think I'll look for a 24in. D196 husky mount.

I was looking for a 24" bar for my 245 Poulan so I guess the bar and chain off my Super XL will work then? Will I need to use one of those little "S" shaped spacers on the bar studs? Looks like the Homelite slot is a bit bigger. It's too cold to go out and check right now, thought someone here would know..

We have another 8500 in the family...

My Uncle drove to Allentown today(4 hours 1way) to get the one thats been on craigslist. He called me from his cell after leaving the guys house, sounded like he was going to pee his pants!
He said it is in really nice shape. I'll get pics this weekend. It is a black top 8500. Needs nothing

I'm also going to look at an old dealers remaining stuff soon, NOS parts and a shed full of green
saws.......hhmmmmmmm

Yes the homelite mount is larger and the s spacer makes them fit up nice, It is nice because the 8500 Poulan has the bigger bar studs so no spacer required.

Glad he got it.

I called and talked to that guy 2 weeks ago about that one. Said he was selling it for his boss etc. He wanted a good buck for it and couldnt tell me much about it and was supposed to get back with me on it and send me some pictures of it.

He never did. I even had a member here ready to pick it up.

No biggie, I wont deal with someone that far away like that so I really am glad someone got it who wanted it enough to drive that far for it.

Hello again thanks for the info on my saw. Glad to know the model number. By the way it's a 3600. I have a question about the air filter. It's a two piece air filter with a real fine mesh screen. How good is this filter and should I swap it out with better filter or different filter

PP405 update

Well, I blocked off the governor and saw runs good again. Problem now is that the idle rpms are so high the chain keeps spinning. Doubt its the clutch as the rpms are just too high at idle. Idle screw is at its minimum and I've done a pressure and vacuum test. No leaks. Maybe its the accelerator pump but I have no idea what its purpose is. I've posted in the Pioneer sticky but so far no real replys. Don't think the Pioneer gurus look at the sticky very often. Not like this Sticky. Oh well, wait and see.

You can slow the idle by enriching the idle mixture. As long as it doesn't bog at acceleration, you'd be good to go.
