Here are a couple pics of that 21" GB Pro Top bar I bought. Kinda hard to find them with the D176 style mount. No S-clip needed.:) Only problem is, now it uses a 72Dr. link chain.. One more different chain to keep track of.:dizzy: I put it on one of my 4000's. Used a loop of Stihl RSC chain.

Gregg,

In the process of tearing down the "Poulan Project", I should at least get the 5400 running today if I can get some "Shop Time" today.

That is a real sharp 4000! I thought mine was real clean, that one makes mine look like it went through a season of Ax Men.

Tried that. Bogs and even stalls.

Not familiar with that one, but have you double checked the choke function? Perhaps it isn't coming all the way off?

Realistically, if it has some part of the carb there, this internal governor, it would maybe run as it should with that thing working properly and not just blocked off. Any way to check with a known good carb that is intact?

OK, and how about timing, has it slipped and now advanced a little over proper settings?

I switched carbs With my 655 and it still idles too high. Did another pressure and vacuum test. Holds pressure but loses vacuum slowly. Pulled flywheel and clutch but couldn't see any leakage from seals. I'm ready stumped right now. I may order new seals anyway. Hope they aren't NL A. This saw has me pulling my hair out.

Looks like fun to me Jim! If I had a nice warm shop. lol

:biggrin:LOL, Axemen, Im sure your 4000 looks better than anything on that show!

Gregg,

It's funny. The only thing I like watching on that show is the falling of trees. I HATE every other part of that fake, scripted show full of drama queens. It isn't any better than watching Project Runway.

Gregg, that is a fine looking 4000, I do not know haow you keep them so nice. I am still looking and will have one for myself one of these days. I have high hopes actually. I visited a saw shop in a nearby town recently and asked about old saws. He said he had lots of old saws in a shed out the back that I could have but he suggested, that as I was wearing a suit at the time, I come back when I could get dirty. Well, I arranged to return next Saturday afternoon with the truck and I can't wait because he said he had an old Poulan!
My luck it will be a wildthing, but you never know.

Al.

I hear ya. Maybe we can get the History channel to do a new show, Midwest Firewood cutters! :msp_biggrin: LOL Probably be to boring if are saws worked, we all got along, didn't fight and cuss each other. We didn't care if we only got one or two loads of wood cut in a day. But at least you would see more actual wood cutting and saws running Im sure. :msp_biggrin:

Gregg,

saw a clean looking 4000 in a pawn shop today for $200. wondering if the price is about close to right? only looked at it and pulled the starter. seemed to have decent compression. chain was decent.

Thats probably what a decent one is worth. Have seen em go for more and less on Ebay. Just depends on who is bidding and how bad they want one. I been lucky and havn't paid more than $90 + ship.for any of mine. BUT, can quickly add up with what you put into them getting them READY to run. Carb kits, filters, fuel line, sprockets, bars, chains etc.

Gregg,

She feels the same about her husband.

I'm not sure about the running part..........I gave that up when I got my drivers liscense.
The other two categories in that statement, I will have to admit!

By the way, if youall ever see me running................take off running too because there is something BAD getting ready to happen!LOL

Hello I was wondering if you guys could help me out I have a poulan 3600 chainsaw. I am having a problem with the saw bogging down while cutting. I adjusted the carb, put fresh gas and oil in it. I tested it before making cuts and it ran fine. I ran it full throttle with No load and let off and it went to idle no bogging. I made three or four cuts into beechwood about 12" in diameter and 6 " long and by the fourth cut it was bogging down and wouldn't idle. It almost stalled and had trouble cutting the log. The chain is new only had about six cuts on the chain. Any idea on what would cause this, or how to fix it.

What are your carb settings? Might be you are too lean on your Hi needle. Should be at 1 turn open as a start. Is compression good? You want no less than 120.

Just the usual. Clean carb, especially that dinky final screen in there, make sure you got new good fuel line and filter, vent line, carb is screwed down tight with no leaks, muffler doesn't have a wasp nest in it or screen carboned out, etc. Try the simple stuff first.

Old fuel lines can look good, but are wuss and won't work well once the saw is running. A saw under load needs lots mo fuel than just spinning the chain fast in open air.

Now tell the smart guys here, who know lots more than me, exactly what your H and L screw settings are. How many turns out from a gentle full clockwise in to seat.

A good tune will sound like it is missing at WOT out of the wood, but "cleans up" and sounds like it is working smooth and good (and will be) once you are cutting with it. Just based on what you said, you might be a scosh lean still.

But cleaning and the lines and check the muffler is always a good thing, normal maintenance.
